Deangelo Peterson tweeted yesterday that Alabama linebackers are big and slow. Then it got pulled. Today he has an article in the Times Picayune with this quote. "Their linebackers are kind of slow and big. I feel I can beat them one-on-one and get open in zones and man-to-man coverages," said Peterson, formerly a wide receiver. "If they guard me with a linebacker, I'll get open. Dude, you are facing the best linebackers you have ever seen. Even if you think you can beat them with speed and get open, you are also going to have to block them three times as often. Why paint a target on your chest? Don't get too cocky, my boy. No matter how good you are, don't ever let them see you coming. That's the gaffe, my friend. You gotta keep yourself small. Innocuous. Be the little guy. You know, the nerd... the leper... sh!t-kickin' serf. Look at me. Underestimated from day one. You'd never think I was a master of the universe, now would ya? -- Al Pacino in the Devils Advocate
I think DPeterson is a mismatch in the passing game. However, those linebackers are beastly and will probably mess him up otherwise. Not his best move.
Upshaw sure as hell didn't look to slow on that pick-6 earlier in the year. That dude is a freak. And for someone who's been a ghost the past several games, D-Pete shouldn't be running his mouth a whole lot.
Tight-Ends seem to be the more elusive of our receivers for LSU. All I remember is the TE slipping out in the middle of the field during our 07 NC for big gains. It may just be me but TEs usually slip out from coverage easier than others.
Trash talking in general is dumb from a tactical standpoint. Never give your opponent emotional fuel. It might be OK on the field from a cornerback where it might have the ability to throw a receiver off his game but I'm still not a fan. That said, there isn't any way to add any more hype to this game than there already is. In fact, it might help to get Saban's notoriously "disciplined" players to get undisciplined and get into their heads a little. Who knows, maybe it will make one of their players take a little revenge shot or make a hit a little too far after the whistle that results in a game-changing 15 yard penalty.
On the other hand, Bama's linebackers are not exactly speedsters. I expect Studthorpe to try to get them one-on-one with our fast tight ends and speedy backs, especially Shepard. But no sense tipping them off . . . or pissing them off.
I thought CLM said he didn't want any twitter personalities for this game. Damn them. They never listen.
i have to disagree. i think bama is focused enough and disciplined enough in themselves, that this kind of thing is not gonna get into their heads. if anything, it will help them focus more. i dont like it.
Get the team away from the Internet immediately. Cut off their access, take away their laptops, iPhones, whatever... We don't need to provide any extra motivation for the opponent! :geauxtige
They are college boys, not robots. Even highly disciplined NFL grown men let their emotions get the best of them. If it's one thing college aged guys are, it's emotional and impulsive and Saban's players aren't infallible. Remember how many times our Saban coached defense got torched? This Saban/Bama/discipline hype has gotten to be ridiculous and LSU fans have a short memory. The way it's going I'm expecting to see the 85' Bears line up opposite LSU on Saturday.
