I feel your pain, believe me, I really do. After the Florida debacle, Ohio St fans are gonna have to simply suck it up. Your team laid a huge rotten egg and it seems the fan base cries foul whenever it's brought up. It's like you guys want to identify with all the glory your team earns but run from that identity it when it's ugly, it's like committing the crime but not serving the time (maybe not you but many tOSU fans are like that). These things don't automatically reset themselves and go away in the off season, the Buckeye's got owned. The Buckeye fan base will have to endure until your team redeems themselves against a worthy SEC foe. And they'll get their chance soon enough. :tigereye:
Good point. I agree that it's the fan base that's bothered the most by 1/8/07. The team probably was over it by thte time they finished preseason camp. Question: Of course I want Ohio State to win the game but in your opinion, as an SEC fan do they earn redemption in a close, hard fought loss? The kind of game that could go either way late in the game. Regards.
ok this is my first post, and I am a Buckeye fan but I do take issue with this statement. Why should the Big Ten have to have a Championship Game? It was your own conference that started the whole thing, and they started it on their own; they started it to make money. Why should the Big Ten be forced to follow suit? I don't hear too many people that claim the Pac-10 is overrated becuase they lack a standardized Championship Game. Now if there was a rule within the NCAA that said that all conferences must play a championship game, and the Big-10 was blatantly ignoring it, then I could see your point. But as it is you are like most of America that has a problem with the Big 10 for not doing something that has only been around since the 90s. I think the Big 10 is down, but calling it 'overrated' is wrong. I don't think anyone honestly thinks they are the best conference right now, so nobody is actually "overrating" it. I think the SEC is the best conference right now, but any rational person can understand that all conferences go through down years. The SEC could very well be towards the bottom in a couple years and the Big Ten could be the Bee's Knees. You just never know what the future may bring. Ohio State is in the Big 10 both for reasons logistically and historically. They are not going to switch conferences because people in the South are mad that they don't belong to the SEC. On the same note, Buckeye fans are fans of their team for logistical reasons as well as other reasons. They are not going to dislike their team, or diminish their teams' feats because they play in a down conference, such as the nature of any fan. We root for our team for the same reasons you root for LSU, we like them no matter what conference they are in. We are sorry the Big 10 isn't at it's best right now, but there is nothing Ohio State can do about it.
Pac-10 teams at least play everyone in their conference every year. So the Big Ten currently is the only one of the BCS conferences where it is mathematically possible for 2 teams to go unbeaten in the same year. I do think the Pac-10 is overrated, but that's got nothing to do with Conf CGs
People outside of the SEC say it is overrated because they are jealous. It’s called inferiority complex. Same reason poor people hate rich people, dorky kids hate popular kids, foreigners hate Americans, etc. People are always jealous of the best.
I've been over to buckeyeplanet a couple times. They treat Wolverines a little worse that everyone else. I have no idea why. Everyone knows that Wolverines are some of the most humble folks around. Acted like I was there to flame or something. LOL now that thats out of the way, there are some folks over there that know a thing or two about football. And, like every other forum there are a few idiots. Goes with the territory I guess. BHD
yes and no. OSU will get praise for hanging close but still have the stigma of never beating an SEC foe in a bowl game. thats something you'll have to shake before the media begins to let up. And, you big 10'ers will have to endure the SEC speed mantra for at least another 364 days. I know you guys are quite sensitive to that issue which is understandable given there is very little difference amongst athletes and everyone recruits basically the same guys. however, its my opinion its more of a mindset/mentality on styles of play that are conducive to the differences in conferences. Wide open offensive teams (tex tech, hawaii) are often exposed because they never face a legit defense at practice. they also tend to overlook the defensive side of the ball/. While more historically conservative teams (big 10, nebraska) are often less prepared when they face a diverse offense. I reason this the same way. They seldom face a diverse offense at practice and even though they have capable team speed, they simply aren't used to facing it day in and day out; so the repetitions are needed. this leads to players thinking instead of simply reacting and making the play. I can't be certain any of this holds weight since its impossible to quantify but I think it may bear some truth.
Yeppers. I also think it has to do with our defensive changes in the last few years. Mark Dantonio was a great defensive coordinator and his defenses were extremely aggressive and handled the non-traditional offenses well. They attacked the offense and disrupted. Look at what his defense did to Miami in the 2002 BCS Championship game. They took away everything but Kellen Winslow and he wasn't enough to get it done. At the end of the game Dorsey was like a beaten doll. Jim Heacock seems to get more passive against the spread and read and plays a read and react style against those offenses. I think this tends to put the defense on their heels. Against traditional offenses he blitzes from angles and is much more aggressive. It has to be tough for a defense to change pace. Either coach them as an attacking defense at all times or coach them the other way but don't expect them to excel at both. In this respect I think the LSU and OSU defenses are similar. They're both much more effective when they're flying to the ball and being disruptive.
If you take the blinders off, you'll find that both of these forums are filled with people who probably don't give the opponent their due. For the most part, I think quality debate is met with the like, and unsubstantiated opinion is scoffed at a bit. Nutriarch and a slew of others have been excellent visitors so far, so we'll take anyone else looking for some quality discussion. Yes it should be. Also click on bpspy (near the top), an awesome auto-updating list of new posts. Makes browsing a lot simpler. I think you'll find most on BP would support a 9 game system. As for CCGs, they fail as often as they succeed. All of those b12 north patsies, yuck. Actually, i think it's also the result of weak, knee-jerk analysis by journalistic hacks. Florida got destroyed a decade ago far worse than OSU, imo. Oklahoma got destroyed very recently by USC. Heck, they even gave up a ton of big plays to a bunch of leftover recruits at Boise. Are those meltdowns even mentioned even more? Perception becomes reality in today's sensationalized media. Who is really shutting down the spread these days? Dixon, Tebow, Young, etc all run wild with regularity. Heck, bottom dwellers are able to exploit matchups with this system. Also, I think the SEC employs more undersized LBs & DEs, while the b10 has larger versions. The athletes are the same, their deployment is a little different. Once they transition to the NFL, they are often repackaged. As far as this bowl game, they uttered the same nonsense in 02, yet OSU's team speed was equal to the task, and more dominant on D. In 05, OSU did a pretty impressive job against VY's spread attack. In 06, they played a soft zone angryfire) and died a painful death 5 yards at a time.
Okay, LSU has beaten four current top 25 teams. Do you know how many other teams can say that? Hint: it rhymes with "hero"
