NCAA investigating Brown's eligibility GoVolsXtra Tennessee tailback Bryce Brown is facing an eligibility issue as the NCAA investigates his amateur status as a high school player, head coach Lane Kiffin said after practice Tuesday. At question is money raised for Brown and other players to attend football camps while in high school. Kiffin said Brown is currently eligible, but is uncertain if Brown will be eligible for the season-opener Sept. 5 against Western Kentucky. Tennessee’s recruitment of Brown is not thought to be part of the investigation. Brown was back in full pads at practice Tuesday but did not participate after leaving Monday’s practice with a hip injury. Kiffin said an MRI was negative.
Tried calling last night but couldnt get him. Emailed and waiting for reply to find out what's up with this. I got an email from him yesterday but no mention of Brown so this is pretty fresh.
Someone on this board called this last recruiting season. Something about Brian Butler guy being shady. good call whoever it was.
The AD has been sitting on a letter from the NCAA for a while, not sure of the time line. AD told Kiffin over the weekend there was an investigation on Browns eligibility but told him it was minor and not to worry. Late yesterday the NCAA notified Tenn that Brown has been declared ineligible pending restitution of monies received during a fund raiser a couple years ago and he would be suspended 3 games. Tenn is appealing the suspension and seeing if the Brown family can repay the money. I do not know the amount. Thats all I have at this point. EDIT: The suspension is only in effect if the money is repaid. If he cant repay the money, he cant play...ever.
