I had to wade through the muck and the mire at that other LSU sports forum to find it, but here it is. Save your $7, it's nothing we haven't rehashed a million times already:

It's warm, and will get downright toasty if the Tigers lose to a very athletic North Carolina Tar Heels team on opening night in Atlanta. It's true that Miles just won a nation title three years ago. Actually, that title season doesn't seem like it happened very long ago, and it's really not. But in SEC country, that's become like dog years. "Look at what Alabama has done since then!" is the vibe you'll get from many parts down there. After all, Saban was the former LSU coach and sent the expectations sky-high. Those expectations didn't drop when he bolted for the NFL.

Miles needs his team to come through big this year to show that this program hasn't lost the momentum that the former Oklahoma State coach rode from the end of Saban's run down there.

I feel like Miles didn't get enough of the credit for the job he did early on there. He pushed the right buttons plenty of times and his personality fit the team well. They played hard for him. They were focused. He had not only a national title but three top six finishes in his first three seasons. Since then, unranked and a No. 17 team. And now, what is this Tiger team about? Is the leadership there inside the locker room amongst the players? Have new guys emerged?

I still think LSU will be a very good team with the talent to compete for a national title. I like the hires Saban (oops) made this off-season on his staff. They have some dynamic playmakers at the skill positions and some studs on defense that can be impact guys. Now, can they get improved play at QB, where Jordan Jefferson and/or Jarrett Lee have been shaky? UNC has a fierce defense and could give them nightmares if they're not ready and dialed in. If the Tigers can win that game, Miles would seem to be in decent shape, assuming the Tigers can handle a schedule that only has three games on other team's home stadiums. But if they lose the opener, the buzzards start circling. Count on it. That's a benchmark kind of game.

If LSU loses to UNC, it wouldn't mean they're not still a good team (look at how the NFL draft guys are assessing the Tar Heels' talent) but it would certainly give folks the message that the Tigers aren't an "elite" team. And these days, that's not going to be good enough around Baton Rouge because 8-4 kind of football won't go over well.
