Say what you want about the Saints front office, but I don't see how anyone can question what the front office has done so far this offseason. I don't think Loomis is as incompetent as you seem to think. I think you've just been beaten down by the Saints history and all the naysayers out there.
While I'm sure the move is an upgrade for the Bears, I think they gave up WAY too much for him. They are going to be a very shallow team for a while having given up 2 first rounders for him. For their sake, they better hope this past season wasn't a fluke for Jay Cutler. Who will he be throwing to?
all they have to do is get a solid wide receiver in the draft or in free agency. they have great tight end play, something denver didnt have, and they have an explosive guy like eddie royal in devin hester. oh and they have a running game, something denver has lost in the past few years. The bears also have a solid defense, which will help. I dont think the bears gave up too much, in the history of the bears they have only had 3 - 3000 yard seasons at quarterback, in 89 years. Cutler threw for 4500 last year. i think this is a great move for the bears and i also think denver is screwed short term. Think about it, you lose a great coach, (he wasnt a gm but a great coach) you lost your franchise quarterback, a guy who was supposed to be john elway's replacement for the next 10 years, and your defense is one of the worst in the NFL, oh and you have no running game. Denver is in big trouble.
Don't give me one good off season and tell me how great the front office is. They have been wrong way more than they have been right since they took over. I admit it looks like a few good FA pickups this year but I'm not ready to call the front office any thing more than below average until they show they are better.
I actually think that Denver got a great deal here when you consider that they traded Cutler for Orton and 4 draft picks. I think Denver was screwed anyway, the way I look at it. Even if Cutler is back next year the Denver defense has been terrible the past 3 years under a great coach, that is what you say about Shanahan. What was his record the last 3 years?. Let me say I have been a Mike Shanahan guy to the bitter end but once he was let go and I reflected back I realized that this team had big problems because of his lack of skills as a gm. You use to not be able to come in and beat the Broncos in Denver either like teams have been able to the last 3 years. Sure it would be great for the Broncos and their new coach to have Cutler but I don't think they can be any worse without him once they address issues on defense and in the running game. I think way too much is being made out of this incident because there is no NFL news this time of year. I will close with what I have said in the past in 2003 about LSU. It takes defense to win championships but it also takes a team and not one player. There are plenty of franchise players that don't make the superbowl much less win it! In closing only time will tell. No, I don't think the Broncos are any worse off than they were when Cutler was still here. I would argue that the Broncos got a lot for one player, if they use those picks wisely they can go a long way to rebuild this team and fix the holes that are present. I say this because of the Bronco performance against Detriot and New England last year for starters!
no i totally agree with you in everything you just posted. i think denver got great value for cutler, i just think they are screwed short term. the question is will mcdaniels get enough time to right the ship, because i dont see them getting better in the next 3 seasons at least unless they just make some great moves in free agency and the next 2 drafts. Mike Shannahan is a hall of fame coach, but he did fail miserably at gm. i used to be a huge denver fan when i was a kid because i loved elway, and atwater, dennis smith, karl mecklenberg, etc. i would like to see them get back to the top, and they could well be on their way. that being said i think the bears got the better of the deal right now and maybe this upcoming season and next.
I agree with everything you have said except this although I understand that you could be correct. I don't think the Broncos are that bad off short term when you look at their record over the last 3 years. McDaniels has already helped the team with free agent acquisitions. I think Brian Dawkins will help tremendously. Kyle Orton threw for 3000 yards last year I believe, the broncos have really good weapons still on the offensive side of the ball depending on Brandon Marshall's situation somewhat. If Kyle Orton can just manage the offense and not turn the ball over they should be ok if they can address the defense. I could be wrong but I think the Broncos could surprise some folks when you consider that most people think they are headed in the wrong direction. Not saying a playoff team but maybe about .500 or slightly better. They were 7-9 in 2007, 8-8 last year. McDaniels needs some time, yes but if they can give up less points than the past they won't have to score as much and can win some games. I still think they are going in the right direction even though the Cutler situation was a major blunder. Especially with Cutler the last 2 and a half years they lost to many games but more importantly too many home games. Not blaming it on Cutler either, defense has been terrible but it didn't halp that Shanahan had 3 different defensive coordinators in 3 years either.
