Same coordinator that won the NC. Let's face it the DLine looks great when you can load the box and leave the corners on an island. We could not do that in 2008. The DLine had to play conservatively--when we faced a nonpassing team, ie GA Tech they looked great. Also when Alem came in, they let him loose, he sure looked like he knew what he was doing. Without the blitz, the line has to account for all the gaps, this is not technique, this is conservative line playing. Make a mistake by going wide after the QB, and boom they run the ball for twenty yards.
I sure hope Chavis is an aggressive defensive play caller in the future. Something that has been lacking sense Saban left. Tell me that it has not frustrated you sometime in the past that we were not blitzing. We had the talent. I believe that we still have the talent, just not the experience in the Dbackfield. That should change soon.

I agree with you. I think the DLine performance is directly related to poor CB coverage.

Whether the QB is Snead, the Troy guy, Tebow or (insert name here) you HAVE to pressure him or he will hurt you.

Look at Evangel and Curtis. All year, Duron stood 8 yards behind the LOS and went through 4 or 5 reads. Curtis forced him out of the pocket and he was useless.

No matter the level, that's a huge key for any defense.

The CB play was poor at times but the opposing QB also had all day to throw the ball. Give any QB all day and he'll find open receivers. The entire defense under performed, you can't place blame on any one position. Part of being able to play man coverage in seasons past was that the CB's wouldn't have to cover all day because the D-line was going to get pressure, that didn't happen this season. I wouldn't grade any position on the defense better than a C- and the same goes with the defensive coaching staff. Lane did nothing this year to show he could get the job done, that's why Les showed him the door. It's very very obvious that Les doesn't like to fire coaches, surely the way he handled the changes showed that. If Les thinks he needs to go he obviously wasn't doing a good job.

Yeah, good points. It's like what comes first the chicken or the egg? A good pass rush leads less lengthy tight CB coverage needed, but good coverage allows longer time for rush to get to QB.

Haley is out with Coach Lane and they visited Stinson and Montgomery today.

Very cool of Lane to do that as the prospects of landing Montgomery are great, but Montgomery has indicated his interest in LSU was predicated on the relationship forged with Lane.

If we can get Montgomery to make his official visit to LSU, I think we will land him.
