Not exactly the same situation but Bo Pellini got clearance from AD Tom Osborne @ Nebraska to coach in the NC game in '07. It can be done with the right set of circumstances. What sucks for the players is that its not just any bowl, its a BCS bowl!

Okay, so if someone comes to you and says there's a job that you could make triple the money and would be great for your career but it's only 1 in 10 will you come for an interview, what would you do? Take the interview and walk into your bosses office before the interview and tell him you were looking at another job?

It's amazing how people can't be truthful with themselves.

And Nick went to the pros, there's no recruiting in the pros so it doesn't matter. Not to mention the deal wasn't struck until after the bowl game was over.

 

I wouldn't leave before that game, and leave all the players I pumped up all season only to tell them "sorry guys, thanks for making me look good, I'm out"
And as far your scenario above, which I'm sure you've been in numerous times since you know how I respond, I've been in the situation. I told them to shove it because they placed too many demands on how I could leave, when I must start, etc.

I agree. It sucks for all involved in some ways but its the nature of the business and the kids are reminded they are simply pawns in a billion dollar industry. this is why that nonsense held on signing day is justified.

No I've never been in the situation and I doubt you have either. That's a very rare situation. And to my point, you told them to shove it before you even talked to them about it? I highly doubt that. Sounds like you talked to them decided against it told them to shove it. The question was, did you tell your boss that you were going to talk to them.
