In a somewhat surprising move, the Yankees decided to reward him for filling their roster with overpriced free agents with declining skills. He must have some serious dirt on the Steinbrenner family. He'll be back to pull off the inevitable trade of Chamberlain, Kennedy, and Hughes for Pedro Martinez. Good times.
How much does Cashman really do? I've always been under the impression that he would like to build the farm system but is sort of pressured to go all out by the big dogs in the corner office. Maybe I watch too much ESPN...
There need for left handed pitching all but guarantees they'll go out and sign Manny Ramirez to a HUGE salary, allowing Boston to grab C.C. This guy has been out GM-ed by Theo for the laft half dozen years or so, so I really like this move by the Yanks.
If you listen to the pundits, Cashman does a good job and is a great GM but I've never been able to see it. Of course, with the Yankmees you never know how much say he really has.
