Well first of all, my original comment about RD was simply that he had a cannon arm. You brought up weight, injury history and NFL career. So you're right, none of that has anything to do with whether he had a strong arm. Now, great is a subjective term. Davey holds the LSU single game (and 4 of the top 10) and single season records for passing yards, and is 4th in school history for pass completion percentage, 9th in career passing yards, and 11th in career TD passes. His NFL production, or lack of it, is irrelevant to whether he was great at LSU.
I don't "know the names relatively easy" because I don't subscribe to Mike's book and don't listen to or read every word he says/writes. However, since you gave such a precise number for how many QB's he has likened to Hodson, I assumed you could give me those names.
@TigerTap I'll say this about Davey...I will call his 2001 year the greatest single season for an LSU QB. That's when he set the single game and single season records, which doesn't include the Sugar Bowl against Illinois. His 444 yards in that game would be the second most in LSU history if the school included bowl games in records lists. With the bowl game, he threw for 3791 yards that season, quarterbacking a supposedly conservative offense.
One more comment @TigerTap before I tuck and roll off this train of thought. I'm flattered that you went to my profile page and calculated my age. But despite the free rent, I'm going to move out of your head....its pretty dark and creepy in there, and - like Les Miles' offense - desperately needs to be modernized.
