Apparently we should just give DB whatever he wants and say to hell with the rest of the guys. Pay them the league minimum - they will accept that for the sheer joy of being on the same team w/ DB.

As you stated (and as I did waaaay back when in these threads), they have offered him money commensurate with his body of work and he has turned it down. Yeah, he has done a lot for the community. So have a ton of the other players, as well as Benson. No I in team boys.

Drew Brees out performed every contract he ever signed with anyone. He is the reason the Saints Franchise has the value it has....and its a hefty value.

This is his last chance to sign a contract that reflects his actual value to the team and to the league.

Just because it's hard for me to fathom what the minimum pay grade in the NFL is doesn't mean that Brees is in the wrong.

Sorry, Benson and Loomis are the greedy ones.

(mc tiger softly bangs his head against the wall and again quotes) "The Saints have already offered Brees the richest contract in league history". Forgive me, but I'm missing the greedy part.

of course they are. the other contracts have nothing to do with his worth to this team. thats what you dont get. he may be 50% of the current value of the franchise. this is brees last chance to get his payday and after he signs it it will be just a top salary within 2 years. but thats not really the point.

doesnt matter what peyton is worth to denver even with a fused spine and duct tape holding him together, although brees' worth is much more. Its about what hes worth to the saints and whats they are worth if they dont sign him. not a whole lot.

correct. the paltry sum that this will end up being isnt worth the cost to the team now or especially if he sits out. that wouldnt be pretty now would it.

you'd find out real quick how good of a receiving corps we really have. And your starting quarterback, 5'10" with zero career touchdowns even against 3rd string defenses, Chase Daniel. (crowd roar is deafening)

Most people would consider $19.25 million a year a pretty good payday. In fact, forget that number, because you know there is more negotiating to do, and he will in fact get more than that before this is done. But you seem to keep forgetting that Loomis has more than just Brees to worry about. John Clayton on ESPN just this morning said that next year there are 5 more key contracts coming up, including Bushrod. If this comes down to the Saints having to franchise Brees again, there would be virtually no way they could re-sign any of those guys. You can't mortgage the entire franchise to take care of one guy - even if that guy is Drew Brees.

yes but most people have nothing to do with nfl contracts. you would think 200k is a lot. Lets just pay him that.

saints have no contracts coming up if they dont have brees. they will be 7-9 at best so its irrelevant. thats what you clearly dont get.

If you pay him $25 million a year, the team goes to shit and the franchise is worth way less than it is today. He's been offered the richest contract that any team has ever given to a player. The most. Bar none. Why does that seem unreasonable? There are fiscal responsibilities. In a week, brees will be signed and none of this will matter.

click your heels dorothy, and if he doesnt and moves on was it worth it? pay the man what he wants. do you think 21 mill a year isnt worth 12 wins a season? some of you are as narrow-minded as benson.

Of course he is. But he'll play for 20 and that will help the team out in the long run. We're nearing the end of the staring contest and one side will blink before the deadline. They'll sign a deal, and everyone will be all smiles at the press conference to announce it.
