It seems odd the Brees has only 25 TDs this year. I thought he had closer to 35. Anyway, if it wasn't for LT's phenominal year, Brees would have the MVP locked up. He'll get NFC offensive player of the year, though. That's still pretty cool for a Saints player to win any kind of POY award.
Looking back on the season, Brees can look to the Cincy game in probably deciding his fate for the MVP. On two possessions in which the Saints were moving at will, Brees inexpicably threw the 2 worst passes he's thrown all year resulting in interceptions by the Bengals in the endzone. Brees' poor reads/decision making resulted in a Saints loss in which the Saints dominated the game for 3 quarters but could only manage a 10-10 tie. Then the wheels came off on D after that point. You give Brees those 2 TDs, take away the 2 interceptions, you're looking at 27 TDs, 8 interceptions, a QB rating approaching 110.0 and the Saints with a 10-3 record. The good news is Brees hasn't made that same mistake since.
FYI, most Tds by rookies this season: Maurice Jones Drew(Jags) 11 Addai 8 Colston 7 Bush 7 Hope one of our 3 guys take the lead.
In watching the Saints game over again (yes I recorded it, somehow I knew this was gonna be a keeper), here was the breakdown on Brees' passes: Total = 38 Completed = 26 Drops = 5 Rushed = 5 (meaning defense made him throw early, all safely thrown away) Poor passes = 2 2 poor passes all night long in which he wasn't hurried. goodness.
Please do not apologize for what you characterize as a "wild" suggestion. You got it right. The story line is already being written. Drew Brees comes back to haunt his old team in the Super Bowl. I've instructed columnists to start working on it. You are onto something about the Rams game. The speech that Bulger gave will be a motivating factor in getting this team to blow the D-line of the Bears off the ball. Big, big night for Mr. Jackson. The only thing I hate about that is a Bears loss will result in Griese becoming the starter. We can't have that. That will result in the Bears winning the Super Bowl.
His performance yesterday put him smack dab in the middle of the race for ROY. I have him on my fantasy team. I traded him for Jevon Walker about 6 weeks ago and now it's paying dividends come playoff time, which is why I pulled the trigger on the trade. I pity the sap who made the trade with me.
We could possibly have a co-MVPs. I know Peyton Manning shared it with Steve Mcnair a couple years back. Not sure if that was the year Peyton broke the record but I think so. With that said, LT owning the record doesn't automatically give him the award.
When do they decide the award? After the reg. season or after the playoffs? That will be a big factor.
