I really love the DL LSU is putting together. When you look at the previous two classes and this one. We are seriously stacked with talent at DT and DE. At DT we have Nevis, Aubrey, Hicks, Downs, and Davenport. At DE there is an abundance with Corley, Aghayere, Clement, Edwards, Montgomery, and Logan. In time we may need to move a DE to DT if they have the bulk. The trenches wins championships though and LSU will be loaded there for years to come. Same can be said for the OL. Im anxious to see of the group of DEs which will emerge? I was high on Corley, we will see this year if he steps up as a Soph. I know the coaches are said to be high on Aghayere, Clement, and Edwards. I cant wait till next year!
:geaux: There have been several posts addressing the lack of a TE in this class and the obvious concerns with that. I'm just wondering what happened with Tyler Edwards and Matt Branch, both of whom were recruited as TE's last class and both highly regarded at that position. A previous posts has him (Edwards) listed as a posible DE. Anybody got some thoughts/info? How 'bout it Parso, what's your take? :LSU231:
Last I heard Tyler Edwards was working as a TE/FB hybrid - no idea if that is still the case. Branch is more of a blocking TE.
Lavar Edwards is a DT, Tyler Edwards is a TE. All five of these TEs are still on our roster: 2009 recruiting class: none 2008 recruiting class: Tyler Edwards and Matt Branch -- both redshirted last season 2007 recruiting class: Mitch Joseph and Alex Russian -- both played as redshirt freshmen last season. 2006 recruiting class: Richard Dickson
:geaux: Thanks John and Parso for the updates. Forgot about Lavar Edwards, thought they were talking about Tyler.:hihi: Hopefully one of the four redshirted that John listed will provide some depth behind Dickson this year. :LSU231:
I'm not a good judge of individual talent, so I appreciate all of your comments. How about this, the character of this class. I haven't seen it discussed too much, but has Miles put himself in position where he can attract great athletes that are also good people? I looks a little like it to me. Maybe he doesn't want another RP, or Z. Thomas that has to leave because he's been arrested. There may be some surprises and trouble, but in general, do you think we're headed in this good direction?
Great comment because it's true about the character of this class. It's also true that it was a problem last year with all the showboating for no reason, with the defense basically quitting last year. The Ar-Kansas game brought everything to a head. It's a new team with new coaches and with an infusion of fresh attitude in the locker room. I can't think of ONE recruit that comes in with baggage. We'll miss Pratt and Janzen like a coal miner misses coal dust. Every one of the recruits seems like real winners- all of them. The only problem I see on the horizon is RR's dad. I really hope that I'll have to eat crow about that. I wouldn't mind at all. I know lots of recipes.
