I didn't realize the end of the first round was still getting 6 million guaranteed. That's good stuff. I'd bolt.
Thats the nature of the business, I dont here anyone arguing that the owners and colleges are making too much money, on these kids backs? Its a job, just like you and I have a job. Only problem I have with NFL salaries are that teachers, soldiers, policeman, firefighters, and other service jobs like that should be paid more compared to these guys. Also, like I said late first round and after that, you basically have to prove yourself and you can be cut at anytime. The money isnt guaranteed, if a second rounder goes down hurt and he isnt playing, all he is living on is the signing bonus. If they want to scale back first round contracts then I have no problem with that. But its a job just like everyone else has. CEOs get huge signing bonuses and perks all the time before they even step foot into the office.
I agree that soldiers, teachers, policeman, firefighters and other service jobs should be paid more. Unfortunately, that is not the reality and never will be a reality. But if you look at the 30th pick in the draft last year, he still received 6 million guaranteed. For 6 million guaranteed wether I was cut or not, I think I would have a hard time not going pro after my junior year. I truly believe that you will start seeing contracts that are maybe 1-2 million guaranteed for rookies instead of this 6 plus million that you see now. My point of it is that if Lafell was to wait until next year, it could cost him as least 4 million. We all know that very rarely do receivers go in the top ten. Look at the 2008 draft. No receivers in the top ten. The last receiver to go in the top ten was Calvin Johnson in 2007. My point is he would be stupid not to come out this year.
Whether or not a player makes the top ten should not be the basis for his decision to go pro; his decision should be based on whether or not he will be a first round draft pick. If not, then it would benefit him more to skip the draft for another year in college.
i dont think there was a wr selected in the entire first round last year. agree. and lafell will likely early 2nd. so its a gamble.
I just don't get the love affair with this guy. I think he was "Pretty Good" while he was here. In my opinion though, he dropped way too many catchable passes. He was a true Jekyll and Hyde. One minute he would look phenomenal and the next he would look like a bum. He definitely needs the extra year in school to work on some his shortcomings. But look on the bright side, if he leaves this can only improve our prospects of getting Reuben Randle.
Thank goodness he ignored you Izzy. I wouldn't have blamed him if he left. Good times ahead of us. :thumb:
