First time poster here....been reading this site for a long time though. You guys have a great forum going here. Please forgive me if this has been discussed before...but how do you guys feel about Lafell staying for his senior year?? While I think he is plenty talented to play on Sundays and he has the perfect NFL recieve build...I think he still has a lot to prove and could really benefit from another year at LSU. Thoughts? Has anyone heard anything?

IMO, it comes down to his trust in Lee & Jefferson. If he doesn't expect marked improvement he's gone...

Personally, I expect him to stay.

Can't imagine he'd be a 1st or 2nd round pick. Hell, he'd have trouble making an NFL team with his dropsies. Most good cover corners in college can shut him down in man-to-man. He'd better stay at LSU another year and get the hell open for Jefferson or Sheppard. :helmet:

According to lsusports.net, here are his 2008 stats:

    Games Played: 12
    Games Started: 11
    Catches: 61
    Yards: 903
    Average: 14.8
    TD: 8
    Long: 43
    Yards/G: 75.2

I think he can improve his status by returning but agree with CParso that he has to feel comfortable and confident about our QB situation heading into next season.

    Several points.

    • This year's WR class is expected to be thin. LaFell could make it into the 1st round if the chips fall right.
    • This is the last year before a rookie salary cap might be implemented. It's not probable but it's possible.
    • Mike D, scout affiliated with the Saints stated a few weeks ago that LaFell is generating big talk in scout circles.

Agreed...hopefully our qbs can give him something to come back for. While I do agree we have mad talent at the receiver position and many of the younger guys WILL develop....Lafell is the only proven/sure one that we have right now for next year...we need him!

LaFell is a first day pick if he leaves this year, maybe even late first round. His drops this year have been overblown by LSU fans.

If he returns, he could make himself into a top 15 selection though.

I think the coaches will focus on getting LaFell to stay once signing day has passed - same thing with Ciron Black & Charles Scott, who's considering leaving early. I'm not so certain about RJF. Keiland Williams is also supposedly considering leaving early.

I think the coaches will sell them on improved QB play & and a better season. I imagine they are all pretty frustrated with the team right now.

I don't see any way Lafell goes in the first round if he leaves this year. That's a stretch.

LaFell has the speed & size of a prototypical NFL WR. In addition to that, he's a FANTASTIC route runner and downfield blocker. The NFL will deal with his drops if he can consistently get open.
