I am not going to bash Brady or LSU during this poor stretch. We got what we payed for with Brady and what more can you expect. LSU will have to put up the big bucks if we want sustained success. College BBall is changing with so many young kids going straight to the pros or after a decent year in college. A turnaround to build momentum is just around the corner with a strong recruiting class every 2 years. I watched them play a few times this year and at times I can see their true potential. This team is designed to be a up and down the court team. However, these young guys can not sustain that pace for long periods of time. That is why the team sputters every game. Brady has a great class coming in next year and if we can keep most of the commits a new coach will have something very positive to build on. Get a big name coach and I know LSU fans will show up with great enthusiasm.
because for every Gonzaga there are 20 South Alabamas and Weber States its funny, their down cycle is currently longer than LSU's i am, with or without cjb
these are the examples you come up with. Michigan blows at bball and has for a long long time.---havent won a fball NC for about 60 years, too. UCLA fball program is worse than LSU's bball. Arkansas fb hasnt been anything since the 60s. for dual top program schools it UF and then every one else. Wisconsin, Ohio St, Okla, Tx are all good but transient in bball success----big picture (not snapshot) LSU is arguably at the level of these latter schools.
You got this part right, football country but LSU is a basketball school with just as much history as other basketball schools such as Duke and North Carolina. What I mean by this is that it doesn't include titles but some of the biggest names of the game in college and pro played at LSU. That isn't correct, I have no reason not to like the man but I think he had trouble picking out good coaches for whatever reason and I think Brady was icing on the cake but I do realize probably no good coaches would come to LSU at that time. How many coaches did we go through during his tenure that didn't work out? Like you said Florida isn't a basketball school but LSU is although sadly I think you are correct, it seems most people want to sacrifice basketball as long as football is king. I'll point out that the womens program has been good for years so it can be done at LSU if you get the right type of coach or a good one. Sadly this is true, I liked and supported Brady in the beginning but he rubs people the wrong way. With some of his rants and comments he's made over the years, inconsistant record, problems with his programs, plenty of questions not enough answers. I shouldn't have to go down the list, I think most people would agree with me. I think John Brady has brought some of this on himself so I don't think its fair to blame only those that don't like him. I NEVER wanted LSU to have a season like this no matter who the coach is but I will say as disappointed as I am this year last year was worse. There is no way that team, after the final four year should've been that bad. Ok, I would consider myself a realist as well in life in general including sports but here is where we differ. Baseball is a stop gap for me between basketball and football, heck they don't even show college baseball games on tv for the most part, not like basketball. So you are willing to tolerate a so so basketball program like I'm willing to tolerate a so so baseball program, correct? Well maybe you could say the same about Dinardo's last year? Interesting, isn't it? I'm willing to bet Dinardo had a higher winning percentage than John Brady and yet he was fired? I could be wrong here but hey, I won't look it up for the heck of it. Let me say something that I know is 100% correct and you helped prove my point about LSU and football country. Would we tolerate an LSU football coach exactly like John Brady meaning his graduation, transfer rates as well as winning 58% of his games including cup cake games, then you have the un-appealing behavior that he displays. But Butler and Memphis are good, Memphis a CUSA team is #1 in the country. Can you imagine that? A CUSA team, a top college basketball program in the country and people say that a team in the SEC, LSU's men's program won't ever be a player or become a powerhouse. The potential IMO is there just like it was in football, there is no denying that Lousiana is a rich state with athletes who can play college sports, then you have the states of Mississippi and Texas next door as well. I think its safe to say that we already covered that Gonzaga may be having a down year this year in my post to gumborue. They have a lot of games left however, lets wait and see what happens next. Edit: In those years, Eighties LSU was one of several basketball schools including North Carolina that made the tournament for so many years in a row, those were exciting years! You are looking at the glass half empty not half full, I understand basketball just aint your thing. As a LSU fan I'll take that anyday compared to last and this year. I heard something recently like LSU basketball hasn't been this bad since 71-72 I believe, I wouldn't call this a down year I think I would call it more like a meltdown. The season isn't over, I don't know how many games this mens team will win but if I'm a bettin man I wouldn't count on them winning more than 2 conference games this year and thats being conservative. I wouldn't call that a down year! What does it matter? As long as your competitive and you don't go throughout the season without a conference win or two? As exciting as the final four run was a few years ago there was nothing left in the tank last year and this year. I've always heard that winning cures everything so it seems to be a coaches fault if he can't win and bring the fans back? I will be honest here and say I'd take a Dale Brown over a John Brady anyday. I don't know, some might say Dale was a good coach? I think you might be right but it depends on who and what you would call good. My whole point in this thread is that we could find an up and coming coach, Billy D and other coaches who weren't hired because they were good got r done. Some would say that is picking a needle out of a haystack, maybe, but it is better imho than the status quo. I want to apologize for this being so long, I'm sorry everyone.
So does that mean that we shouldn't bother and stick with the status quo? Lets talk odds here for a moment. Are the odds any greater there than they were for D-Day or Operation Market Garden? Why should any body make a change because chances are they could fail? They've also changed coaches recently I believe. (hint) I haven't kept up with their program but I'm willing to bet even though they didn't have a final four run 3 years ago, that they didn't have a total meltdown like LSU has the last 2 seasons.:dis: I am but only without him.
If '97 was "about 60 years ago", then I'm A LOT older than I 1st thought. I think it's time for me to retire.
