I definitely agree with the logic there, what sucks though is teams against this defense are way more successful with a shorter field, but I guess that would probably ring true with any team.
He failed as co-DC and now he's failing as ST coach. If Miles follows his previous script, he won't 'fire' him until he's secured another job.
Just re-watched the KO return for a TD and this by no means excuses the piss poor coverage, but there was a missed block in the back call. No surprise since they were SEC refs. Just saying..
Domingue has done so, too. It has to be something technical. It's why I think they need to find a kicking specialist to evaluate it. The punter is also underperforming. Who is the worlds authority on placekicking and punting? Does the athletic department have a contract with them yet?
A kicker must be expected to kick it into the end zone, kick it inside the 5, and direction kick it as a coach requires. Domingue and Delahoussay have been around long enough to have this down. Gamble is a rookie but should have the leg to kick it long consistently. All of them should.
If you have a great kick coverage team the directional skykick is a smart thing to do. This team can't kick cover so continuing to do so is a very poor decision.
I don't know if Domingue is capable of kicking it out of the endzone consistently. Gamble is, unless his leg has somehow atrophied since last year. His problem seems to be taking too much time to set up the football on the tee. It's not a putt to win the fukin" Masters. Just put the ball in position and back up an kick it. Gamble can kick the ball into the student section. At this point forget all the directional kicks an pooch kicks. Kick it over the goal posts straight down the middle every time. I would rather start on defense on the 25 than the 35 or 40. I would make Gamble practice placing the ball and kicking it 100 times a day while I stood by him with a stopwatch. Every time he took too long he would run a lap around the practice field. In practice, kickers don't have anything to do but practice kicking. They don't block, tackle, run or pass. They don't have to learn more of the playbook than the occasional fake punt or field goal. If Gamble somehow can't get his shit together there is Jack Gonsoulin. He is on the team as a preferred walk-on. Last year at Catholic High he consistently kicked the ball beyond the endzone. He was the second rated kicker in the US as a recruit. Les may want to keep the redshirt on him but at this point he may be the only kickoff option other than Gamble. http://thearmchairallamericans.com/...view-with-lsu-freshman-kicker-jack-gonsoulin/
