Looks like a solid pickup. Regarded as one of the top JC players in the country. So far so good for Coach Johnson.
for those curious, the kid is a 6-6 SF, who had offers from most SEC and Big 12 schools. and here is the link: http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=857813 ISL is having an off day today.
no, and no. it seems like a great kid for CTJ to get. i have no complaints about it. it was a serious question to all the unreasonable posters in the past griping about brady signing a forward, or not signing a guard. if brady were still here and he signed a forward, there would be a dozen posts griping.
No, because Chris Bass has already been locked up, which would not have happened if your best friend were still the coach. Maybe he feels like he can coach Bo Spencer up a little bit as well. My guess is since there's only 1 PG that LSU has targeted for 2009, CTJ feels pretty good about what he's got at that position. SG is another story with 4 or so kids targeted. We lose Martin, Thornton, and temple at that position before 2009. I'm gonna give CTJ the benefit of the doubt.
Not only that, but sometimes you can't underestimate the effects of a kid like Bass from a recruiting standpoint. Chris was all about LSU, had to "fight" his way to get attention from Butch Pierre and then ultimately CTJ. He lands that schollie late and is excited about being at LSU. It seems from what we're reading that he was very much a part of recruiting Reese since they hung out together. Bass is also tight with Latavious Williams, due to their time on Brandon's AAU team the Bass Elites (note also that there will be another huge recruit in 2011 who plays on that team). Sometimes recruiting is putting together those subtle pieces and relationships to get a string going. Bass is athletic enough, the question now becomes can CTJ and Donny G coach Chris and Bo up. They're more likely than not going to be better with the guards than the former regime. But, you'd love to add Phil Pressey to this mix too!:grin:
