Because the Bama has played a much harder schedule and you know it. Name another team that has more current ranked wins that Bama this year? Also, I'd put money on FSU getting dusted by everyone in the top 4 and UGA would smoke them too.
so: Michigan with 56th ranked strength of schedule (using Sagarin's ratings) gets to be #1 in America as an undefeated Power 5 champ. #1 over 2 other unbeaten teams, and the 2 one loss teams that got in plus Georgia who also has only 1 loss. Florida State with a similar SOS (61) gets left out completely in favor of teams with a loss despite also being undefeated Power 5 champion. is Michigan's schedule honestly soooooo much better than FSU that they get to be #1 and Florida State gets fucked? of course not. Florida State is getting penalized for a loss we think WILL happen. Alabama (and Texas) are both being forgiven for having a loss that DID happen.
Totally agree with this! If both Bama and FSU had one loss then I can see the case for Bama, otherwise that should have been FSU's spot.
Yes. Correct. THAT IS HOW THIS SYSTEM WORKS! This is 100% the function of the committee. Who the "think" they 4 best teams are. Surprisingly, no one seems to disagree with them. You guys think revert to the "deserve" trope. And under the old system, it would be Michigan vs Washington and FSU would still be crying. Though, none of you would probably care because this is really about Bama and people not liking them more than anything else.
And dudes, most of you thought UGA was going to beat Bama who I am sure ALL of you considered the #1 team. Come on... As far as I am concerned, Bama already has 1 playoff win this year.
so they think Florida State is good enough to beat Georgia? or that Georgia would lose to every one of those top 4 teams? no, actually this about the absolute bullshit reason. the committee chair actually said, out loud, that Florida State is out because their quarterback is hurt. https://www.espn.com/college-footba...5/michigan-washington-texas-alabama-vie-title Had he said something along the lines of "we looked at it and Alabama and couldn't ignore the difference in Strength of Schedule", then OK, I can buy that. That's a good sound reason. instead he literally told us that he ignored actual on field results and went with "feel" instead. College Football has always boasted that "every game counts" and the committee just admittedly shit on that and said "the games that DID happen didn't play into our decision"
Excellent point. and Exhibit A. of why "who we think would win" should not outweigh infield results for games that have already been played.
if we're not going to use games actually played, then why is the top 4 not Michigan Ohio State Bama UGA in some order? those are the 4 most talented teams and other than each other, would likely beat anyone else in the country.
@Nutriaitch Bingo. If in the end, its going to be determined by who a committee "thinks" is the best, why play the regular season at all? Maybe CFB should go to a World Cup-type format. Let the committee pick who they think are the top 16 teams in August, break them into 4 groups and have each group play a round robin. Take the 4 group champions and play a semifinal and final. The end. Another thought: if you believe in the argument that the Heisman Trophy should go to the player who is the most important to his team, then case closed. Its Jordan Travis. If his loss eliminates an undefeated Power 5 conference champion from playoff contention, how are you going to argue that anyone else is more important?
