That problem will be fixed with the expanded playoff next year (?). The 12 team playoff they decided on would have been perfect this year. I would have been happy with 8 teams (the power 5 champions +3) or even 6 teams.
One of the big problems with college football is that you can’t make a predetermined formula. College football is too big. Win / loss is good until you have to match SOS and maybe it weakens. Big out of conference games should matter but these games are scheduled years in advance and who knows how impactful that game will be. Conferences are not equal. Injuries are taken into account? Should a team everyone knows will get dusted be given the nod over someone else who lost a game in September just cause a tight formula is adhered to? Texas needed to beat Bama but Bama didn’t need to beat Texas. How does that work? idk, I’m just rambling on. Next year will be the truest test yet for determining a champion. no more Alabama ScrewJobs!
Baloney. It would be quite easy in stages. For example, it might look something like: 1 - Undefeated Power 5 champions 2 - Any other undefeateds with sufficient victories against Power 5 schools 3 - One loss Power 5 champions 4 - One loss Power 5 non-champions 5 - One loss D1 champions and so on...
Simple. FSU did not lose a game and played two strong out of conference foes so their schedule was as tough as it could have been. Bamma lost. Case closed. Bama should have been out. Any other decision is corruption and makes a mockery of the regular season. And bama barely squeaked by a weak AU team so don't tell me crap about how well the teams played at the end of the season.
Without reading thru 5 pages, Ill say the BCS had it right. They just didnt use enough teams for CG. Now we are back to a single subjective tiny poll sample (committee) with the usual biases.
did the season start in September? then that loss in September matters how are you going to punish Florida State for a loss that hasn't even happened yet, but not penalize Alabama for one that actually did happen?
Anyone who says Bama is not a top 4 team just hates Bama. And if LSU was in this spot and only had lost to FSU early in the year and say we beat the #1 UGA team last week, all of you, ALL OF YOU, would say we should be in. Why? Because the SEC is that much harder. I mean shit, our O is so good now we might could drop 40+ on FSu right now. Who knows what are D would do though…..
