I would rather hear Verne Lundquist call 100 games than hear any female play by play for 5 minutes. I'm all for equal opportunity but football should be called by men.
I don't have much of an opinion on Gary Danielson. I have never been a fan of Verne. I listen to enough of Mullins call games to know that you are wrong about her ability to keep track of players. She not only makes mistakes with players but with plays and references to other games and memorable moments. Some are head-scratchingly bad. I've heard her refer to a coach and she didn't even get the correct team. But by far her most annoying trait is her voice itself. I honestly don't know anyone who can stand listening to her talk. She should stick to softball.
That's not been my experience watching her call games. Perhaps, she's an east coaster and you folks ought to kick off before mid night on the east coast. It's also been my experience that I've heard "I'm not sexist" and then people follow that with a sexist comment. No offense to @Bengal B but he's pretty close to that statement with "I'm for equal opportunity" unless it's a female calling football." (sic) Huge misconception here. I'm not saying you don't like her voice though. To each his own. From a production standpoint, Mowins voice is ideal for a play by play caller. You have to have someone calling the game who has a voice that cuts through the ambient noise heard with any game. Andrea Kremer said about a year ago that she felt those saying "I hate her voice" are really saying "I hate a women announcing football." I can't speak for you, tirk, but can speak for what I've seen and that fits more often than not. There are a few things that slightly bother me when it comes to color commentators and play by play personnel. It's mostly stupid comments but I have to take those in the context they're said: it's their opinion the vast majority of the time. I'm reminded of a sentence I read a year or so ago; The safest bet in sports: men complaining about women announcers voice.
She's a yankee. Not sure what that has to do with her errors or kickoff times. I can't speak for Bengal but if he doesn't want to hear a woman's voice, I take that as personal preference as opposed to not wanting women announcers simply because they are women. Worst....voice....in sports. If what cuts through "ambient noise" is successful due to it's grating and irritating qualities, I don't think it's helpful. Kremer is another yankee looking for a reason to be pc-relevant. I hate bad announcers, regardless of gender and if I hate Beth's voice, it's because it's annoying. Give me Robin Roberts. That's okay....ESPiN and FOX and CBS will eventually get a tranny to represent women in the booth. They are already finding success being a better woman than a real woman is.
