Each team gets that amount. I don't know why they have the range 14-17m unless it's linked to gate revenue? It couldn't be linked to TV, at least, I don't think so. It would seem the sponsorship would all ready be in place.
I read in the paper on Wednesday I think it was that Hawaii was granted 500 more tickets after realizing that he made a mistake by sending those 4,000 back. What a dum-dum.
Ironic this topic is up, I sat and talked for a couple of hours last night with someone very involved with the bowl payout, allocation etc. Couple tidbits I though were interesting: 1) I think this is widely known but the particpating team gets a cut off the top to cover it's expenses for the travel & stay to/from the bowl. 2) Can't remember this piece exactly, but a member school on probation has a portion of funds held back. Didn't sound like a forfeiture but more of a "escrow" until a later date. 3) The Big 10 and SEC have similar allocation models whereas the Big 12 let's the participating take home a larger share, ie the fat continue to get fatter.
Best I recall it's 50% in escrow, collected with interest on the day the probation window closes. When Alabama's probation ended several years ago the figure was well into the 30 million dollar range.
Yuk, yuk. SEC refs, officials, umpires, etc all seem to have agendas and personality conflicts. They seem to judge with their hearts rather than their eyes. Of course, I'm viewing through purple and gold glasses. I'm sure other conferences have their opinions as well, I just don't watch these, just SEC. I think throwing money at them might worsen the situation. I have an idea. Fire all the SEC refs each year and promote high school refs. I think they will only call what they see.
