Since it is almost a certainty that LSU is going to the Cap One Bowl, what do you think the type of offense LSU should run with JJ? It still seems that in the last game, JJ was quite proficient when they are running a no huddle offense (with not much time for him to think too much and hang onto the ball), maybe LSU should use more of that type of medicine against the presumed opponent Penn State.
With the genius still on board... I am sure you will see plenty of option runs to the short side of the field. It's really too bad Crowton is not on the sidelines that way the RB could just keep on going out bounds and running over his ass.
I want to see Dickson used quite a bit. He's been hurt a lot this season but he should be healthy and getting some good completions to Dickson will do wonders for Jefferson's confidence. I wonder if Scott might be able to return. Otherwise obviously want to get the run game going with Ridley and Shepard. Maybe even let Shepard throw a pass (yeah right) I think a lot will come down to our wide receivers. I doubt either Iowa or Penn St. have faced receivers as good as ours this year. Big games from LaFell and Tolliver should mean an LSU win.
something that i've noticed this season is that our receivers are simply NOT getting open. the few times that they ARE open, jefferson takes a sack or throws it away. it's just been a frustrating season. i think jefferson needs to have two or three options in his head at all times... if the play isn't there, then he needs to run, but that would complicate things. i think they need to game plan and become comfortable with what they're going to run (whatever it may be.) i think that a month of preparation favors LSU more than whoever we'll be playing because of CLM's bowl history.
actually i think the offense we run should be fine against a big 10 team as long as Jefferson isn't taking sacks, and we don't completely abandon the run.
In watching the Arkansas game it seemed as if JJ is getting better...I mean, that slink underneath the impending sack and then chucking it 20 yards was amazing.
very true; in fact I did see that play again when they replayed it on CST last night. Again, it makes me think that JJ seems to do better under pressure and playing with his instincts. That laser to Lafell was a beauty, and so was Lafell's catch. Same for that final drive in the 4th QTR (with the exception of the sack the first play of that series!)
I have always felt that JJ did better when they rolled him out. I'm wondering if the're trying to put a square peg in a round hole by trying to make him a pocket passer.
While we're speculating..... I would love to see JJ rolled out of pocket several times. As long as his ankle is a 100%, he's quick enough to scramble. Other than that, I'd love to see a short, quick passing game that utilizes Dickson, Tolliver, and Lafell to their fullest potential. On the run, I hope Charles Scott comes back healthy for one last game. If that doesn't happen, I want to see Ridley and RS used as a one-two punch to the defensive line. Holliday is best when he doesn't get hit. That said, I think he would be very effective with direct snaps or lining up for a wide receiver toss. Most importantly, I want the OL to finally get mad about the trash that's been talked about them and dominate up front. With JJ rolling out, a quick, short yard passing game, and RB's that explode, they will not have to hold their blocks for very long. It probably won't happen, but if it does, I think victory is imminent:geaux:
