Whatever bowl we play in...BCS NC or whatever, I bet whoever we play will get called for holding 5-6 times. SEC officials seem to have an agenda about not calling holding against LSU's opponents. If it starts getting called, amazingly Glenn and the rest of the D-line will probably have stellar performances.
Welcome to the board Sam. I do agree way too many holding penalties on our D-lineman have not been called this year. I have no idea why that is. Bama went the entire game without a holding penalty.
You can say what you want about Samward's first post, but he/she is right. Although, Ole Miss did have their share of penalties Sat., this has been the trend all year. Unfortunately for you Samward, this is not the first time this topic has been brought to the forum; hence some possible negative backlash. Even though there were at least 2 blatant calls even Bama would agree was holding.
I don't know how officials are usually assigned to bowl games. What do they do, select officials from a conference other than the affiliations of the two participant teams ? BTW, welcome to the board.
Not sure how, but the NCAA assigns them, presumably they will try to pick a crew from a non-affiliated conference...you can see the "unofficial official" list here as the information is released. http://www.refstripes.com/forum/index.php?topic=3065.0 Also, thanks for the welcome! I used to post over at TD.com but there's just too many zealots and knuckleheads over there. Looking for some reasonably level headed discussion here. I just meant that once SEC officials aren't involved, its going to be interesting to see if the calls are consistent, or if their is a noticeable difference in the type of calls being made/missed.
Welcome to the board. I think you raise an interesting point, as the o-line of our opponents haven't been well-officiated. Of course you can call holding on just about any play, but it's been absurd a few games. I don't watch enough of the other conferences to know how they call 'em. The Big XII seems to be kind of inconsistent and generally just calls the most obvious holds. The Pac 10 doesn't play defense, so it's kind of irrelevant there. :hihi: :thumb:
The best d line in the country and we cannot get a holding call.We can get chop blocked ,held,picked..and no freaking call.In the Ole Miss game I jumped out of my chair ,and ran to the television screaming"how can they not call that?..... it's freaking holding ..an ole miss ball carrier is 20 yards downfield and we finally get the flag. It would seem that a referee with even a small degree of intelligence would think to himself before the game"you know ,LSU has some really great lineman on the defensive side of the football.I think I will watch how they are getting blocked."
I seriously doubt the SEC officials are purposefully not calling holding against our opponents and singling out LSU at the same time. I've always thought that conference officiating, especially towards the end of the season, will favor the team that has the best chance of representing the SEC in the biggest bowl game...championship game or otherwise, if it were to favor any team at all. This; however, is a totally different issue. I haven't disagreed with many holding calls against LSUs OL. With that said, I seem to see many no calls for holding against LSU front 4. I really cant come up with an explanation, except that I don't think it is the officials playing against us. JMHO
