Happened in October of 09. He got a 12% raise, $50,000 bucks. LSU Offensive Coordinator Gets $50K Pay Raise - WGNO
Sweet, where can I get a 12.5% pay raise for having great resources but being nearly the worst performer in the company? And make 6 figures to boot?
Haven't dropped yet... First off, nobody is guaranteed to win anything. Secondly, I'm sure we wouldn't fire him without some candidates in mind. No, it's not. 10 wins/year & competing for the SEC/National Championship are the expectations. If we don't show marked improvement this year & at least come very close to those goals - it's 3 years in a row. And if we can't do it this year, what would make Alleva confident we'll be able to do it the after that? Miles won't have the inexperienced QB argument to fall back on anymore...
That is no different than saying "I have not been hit by a bus....yet." After two years, there is no drop off in ticket sales. If there are any old timers dropping out, there are hundreds of people lined up to take their place. Simple fact is, ticket sales are not down. Hinting that it could happen in the future is open ended, unsupported conjecture. The point being if averaging 10+ wins/season is not good enough, who will come in and do better? If the fans won't stand for Les' record, than the "expectation" must be for something greater. What coach is going to come in with those kind of expectations? Have there not been enough examples of hubris from other fans? Nebraska? Notre Dame? Actually it is different. Your original post stated that you believe Miles will be fired if he does not achieve the water mark you set. Then you modified yourself by saying that not hitting that mark will "eventually" get you canned. Those are two different things.
Exactimundo. Hard to name one, ain't it? When? Every year? Or just years when we have the toughest schedule in the conference and no proven quarterback? Tell me, are these realistic expectations? Sorry, amigo, I ain't exactly suicidal about three years without a national championship. There are about 115 programs that would like to trade places with LSU over the last decade. We're recruiting well, were winning in a tough conference, and things have basically never been sweeter for LSU football. I'm not ready to write off the next decade because of the shame and humiliation of being one of the 3 teams out of 119 that have won a national championship in the last three years. Even though we have to play both of the other two each and every year, I'm not ready to write off this season either. But I am realistic about our chances this year. Some very good football teams are going to finish with 2 or 3 SEC losses in 2010. Les will not be fired for 9 wins or even for 8 wins. What would make Alleva risk firing a winning coach and hiring a losing coach? LSU is making money, we are a perennial top-10 team with trophies at every level, and we are recruiting extremely well. Some very talented youngsters will make a mark this year. LSU will start in the top-20 and finish in the top-10. Les wins 80% of his bowl games. We probably won't win a national championship but we will not be a bad team at all. It's not exactly a friggin' tragedy to me. It's football in the SEC. We're not going to win every year and we're not going to lose every year, so I am damn sure not going to cry and be depressed in the years we don't bring home a trophy and start looking for a bogeyman.
But Red it's not just 2 years with no hardware, its 2 years of losing to Alabama, Florida, and Ole Miss. National Championships are wonderful, don't get me wrong, i am more concerned about getting back to Atlanta.
Those are top teams. The two last national champions. It's not like we're losing to Georgia, Tennessee, or Auburn.
We split with UGA, haven't played Tennessee, but have beaten Auburn. Ole Miss isn't a top team. This is my biggest complaint, OOC means jack sh!t, and to be honest National Championships are lagniappe, SEC Titles are king.
'08 Alabama we lost to after throwing 4 picks. Four picks. Alabama didn't beat us...we beat ourselves. '09 Alabama (eventual Nat'l Champs) Hell, we were leading...at their place in the 3rd quarter with a qb that won't let go of the ball, no less. Florida '08....bad day at the office, from the first series. Florida '09....coaching staff just wanted to make sure the Gators earned it this time around and they did. But at least the players stuck to the game plan. That is progress, considering.... Ole Miss'08...team had given up on coaching staff. See Florida '09 for the coaching staff's reaction. Ole Miss'09...we were all there, no need to rehash it. Morale of the story? The only reason LSU hasn't been more successful is because of LSU. It's an in-house issue that is being dealt with. If LSU gets their own house in order watch out.
But therein lies the problem. When you start saying that there are games we should have won, you can also argue that there were games we should have lost. I originally said i don't think Miles will be terminated at the end of this season regardless, but...... If LSU loses to Florida, Bama, and Ole Miss again this season, i think there may be some validity to what CParso is saying, or at least it wouldn't totally shock me. That will be unacceptable, especially when 2 games are at home, and 1 is against Florida who lost a whole hell of alot.
