I'd love to see BSU now turn around next week and travel to Tuscaloosa and play Alabama then the following week have to play Arkansas then the following week play LSU. That's what I'd love to see. :angryfire
I understand the point you were making, but perhaps only Texas could join ND as a viable independent. Boise State is in a conference; it just happens to be in a inferior conference with shoddy opponents. The media is going to go crazy with Boise State's win but I never thought Virgina Tech was going to be that good this year anyways- it had too much turnover on defense. I'm a little bit sick about hearing about Boise State. All they did was beat Oklahoma in that bowl game when Oklahoma clearly didn't want to play that game after losing their chance to play for a NC.
You cant help but like what Boise does. I dont think they could hang week in and week out in a big conference but they are always a gutsy team who can get up for a big game. I thought VT started to out class them a little late in the 2nd and 3rd quarter but Boise has proven they can play with the big boys at least once or twice a year. Peterson is a great coach and wont be at Boise forever. The school that gets him is going to love that guy. He gets more out of those 2 and 3 star players then most coaches get out of 4 and 5 star players. If they win the rest of their games they will be in the championship game regardless if you think its silly or not. They have built their reputation over several years and they are not a one year wonder. They have tried to schedule home and home series with big teams but nobody is willing to go to Boise. Boise will do better to try and schedule a 3 game series and play 2 on the road and one at home. They would have a better chance of getting big teams to agree to that deal. Of course some teams dont want to play them anyway. Every time Boise plays a big conference team its basically their national championship game so you will get their best.
The bigger issue is they have time to recover from physical games like tonights. Where as the SEC and even the Big 12 and Pac 10 do not have that luxury. We have to real off playing five, six, and sometime seven consecutive conference games where its one physical matchup after another. Yet we think a team "deserves" to be in the big game that we'll admit probably couldn't handle very many consecutive games against physical teams? What are we wanting in college football? The disease that has entered our school systems where "everybody wins" and "lets not keep score"? The quality of teams does matter and should matter. BSU doesn't deserve to play for the BCS Title. When they start playing a more respectable schedule and quit making outrageous demands to the bigger schools in terms of money being paid to them then we'll talk. But they've positioned themselves in a victim role where no matter what happens they are the "winner". It's pretty pitiful if you ask me.
