so, after 4 years he takes Arkansas to 11-2 & 5th in the nation in both polls. Come on.... Arkansas Razorbacks (Southeastern Conference) (2008–2011) 2008 Arkansas 5–7 2–6 T–4th (Western) 2009 Arkansas 8–5 3–5 T–4th (Western) W Liberty 2010 Arkansas 10–3 6–2 T–2nd (Western) L Sugar† 12 12 2011 Arkansas 11–2 6–2 3rd (Western) W Cotton 5 5 Arkansas: 34–17 17–15
I would make a leap and say he also didn't have close to the talent has he would walk into here. He's doing something right up there in Louisville.
Also Petrino didn't get fired b/c he lost in the SEC, if you read in the all knowing Wikipedia apparently the last year was only the third time the hogs went 11-2. If you can over look the moral questions he wouldn't be a bad hire. I don't know if I am on that wagon.
Problem is we shouldn't overlook the man's morals. Not only did he screw around with that girl, he hired her illegally, lied about it and ran. He also deserted his position as HC of the Falcons in the middle of the season like a thief in the night. He will screw Louisville again and likely his lack of moral sense will get him in trouble again and again. He is a bad man in every way and if LSU sells its soul for the likes of him they're not the LSU I and so many others love.
"every way"? Apparently you assume that Petrino is the devil, but i submit to you that he is not SATAN! It's common knowledge that Saban is currently Satan (you couldn't tell my the names?) But in the '90s Spurrier was the devil, so go figure.
In one paragraph containing two sentences you've demonstrated how little you know about Petrino. Setting Jessica and Long aside for the moment... Just because he didn't get caught it doesn't mean he wasn't playing very, very loose with the rules in his first stint at Louisville. I know of players, personally, who were paid to attend school there. If I recall correctly, @uscvball can attest to a few cases where he did the same with some recruits from the west coast. From a football standpoint: If you want a weak defense that doesn't tackle he's your man. He didn't allow his defensive staff at UArk to allow their players to play with any physicality in practice. And, as you practice, you play.
BTW, as I recall ... the two losses LSU suffered when playing against Petrino's 'Backs teams where one year when the Tigers were below .500 in SEC and the other year they were .500. Two out of four years looks good, on paper, until you look further into the story. The only time they were competitive against Bama was in 2010 against a struggling team becoming riddled with injuries. The other three games were absolute beat downs.
