What Bobby Hebert did was wrong plain and simple. As a man he was wrong and anybody that defends what he did is wrong. I ripped Les Miles in many posts for how his team played and decisions but i am not in the news media and i dont have a son on the team. It was a conflict of interest and i dont care if he knows football or played. If he is that damn good let him become a coach and put his ass on the line. It was wrong in so many ways i cant even explain. Where was Bobby Hebert asking for his son to be pulled from the offensive line when he was getting whipped on every play. If you want to be honest TBOB sucked as an offensive lineman and was at best a backup that had to play. There is some truth for you Bobby. You prepared to handle that. There is a line and Bobby Hebert crossed it. With a son playing for LSU he should have asked those questions 1 on 1 and no other media present. Then Les Miles could tell him to go jump off a bridge. I am as upset with our performance as anyone. But Les Miles deserved better than that from the media. If he doesnt apologize to Les he is scum. And i will tell him so if i ever see him.
Here's the transcript of that clip. Bobby: Coach, did you ever consider putting in Jarrett Lee (the question every LSU fan would like an honest answer to today) considering that blah, blah, blah, I love the sound of my own voice, and I'm not really a journalist, just an ex-jock with a microphone, blah, blah, blah, I should shut up and let you answer my question, but I'd rather hear myself, just like I do on my call-in show, blah, blah, blah Moderator: Do you have a question? Bobby: Do you think you should have pushed the ball more downfield? (why did you change the question, jack-wad?)
In all fairness, he was asking two questions at once. He started with Lee and he was finishing with LSU's inability to move the ball up the field. To his credit, Miles answered both of them. I didn't like the answers, but he addressed both points.
I watched the post-game and observed the questions Hebert asked and I did not take it to be "ripping" but reasonable questions. If he is in the room as a journalis, and I believe he is based on his shows on WWL, I think he had a right to ask and did so just as any other journalist would. Just my take.
I don't think he is usually in there for these sort of things. He got a press pass from WWL and WWL is largely defending him today. I do, too.
Wow. And what have you done for LSU football that empowers you to call the architect of one of our finest seasons ever an idiot?
I told the two guys I watched the game with that if we didn't throw the ball down field we would lose. We prepared for a Bama ground game. Saban brought a passing attack that was uncharacteristic of them with a Heisman finalist. He got away from their tendencies. Everyone knew going in that QB play would be the X factor. I was disappointed because I expected JJ to play well. Never dreamed we'd be shut out. Even the passes he did throw for 10-15 yards, our receivers had to do acrobats to catch them.
I disagree. To me, any year we won a National Title would be greater than this one. I'm not saying Miles should be crucified either.
I don't think it's embarrassing to ask for an explanation of a coaching decision, unless the coaching decision is embarrassing in and of itself. The conduct of the game is in the hands of the coaches and LSU was embarrassed last night. Certainly, the spirit and play of Alabama had something to do with that. That JL and T-Bob didn't play at all was part of that embarrassment. How much a part we'll never know. Obviously, the guys were not ready for this game...the greatest embarrassment of all. I just hope the coaches learned how to better prepare the team for a BIG game. We'll have enough of them next year as we prepare for another National Championship quest.
It is still one of the best seasons in school history. SEC champions, 13 wins, wins over every team on the schedule, and victories over three of the final top 5. Still a damn strong season.
