That's the sabanfan coming out of her... Can't handle the truth... Always defend the poor 5mil a year coach no matter what.
I can't remember a loss that was this bad and on a larger stage, it does not compare to ANY situation that has happened before. However, what happened in that game does look earily familiar with some others with similar results. It is not like LSU lost 21-17 or any other "respectable" scenario out there. The school, fans, players and state were humilated and he needs to take ownership of what HE DID/DID NOT do in/before that game. The buck stops at his desk.
I realize that all of us are stinging by the way that we lost. But, honestly, we wouldn't feel too much better if we played our hearts out and came up short. Any loss is a bad loss, and since it doesn't happen to us often (anymore), it hurts a ton. I grew up in a coach's home, so I just see it differently. It's almost offensive how folks are suggesting that Les Miles' owes them anything. No one is hurting worse than he is. Except for the team--but name even one guy that had a GREAT game on Monday night. It was a team loss, with some players performing worse than others, but none playing well enough to compensate for the under-performing players.
When a coach makes around $4M a year, while the Tradition Fund fees keep piling up and the overall costs of supporting a team continue to rise (see tailgating fees), fans feel entitled to an answer. Much the same way as shareholders want answers from the CEO when the company they invested in fails to meet their earnings projections. I'm not saying it's the right attitude to have, and I have serious problems with the whole "Les owes us an answer" mentality. Frankly, it's similar to the rationale that buying a ticket gives someone the right to boo players and coaches. But I understand where it comes from.
