What a bunch of studs y'all are bagging on a coach who won his conference 13 times and is in the Hall of Fame.
Every word (I believe you admitted to stopping at page 2). Minimize mistakes on offense, force turnovers on defense, stop the run, control the pass. What a lunatic! I might be wasting my time with a bunch of people who are intimidated by reading an entire eight-page document. The first person who actually reads it and identifies a problem with actual passages within - instead of dismissing it out of hand - gets a cookie.
Key quotes going from page 1 to page 2. "we would like to throw the football a lot more than we did the past year." (Miles says this after every game.) "when we opened our season, after spring practice, we made the decision that there was no way we were going to be an effective passing team" (I can see how Miles thought the same thing) "We're gonna play defense first...Second, we'er gonna rush the ball...And the third thing we'll do is kick. We'll have a sound kicking game and that's the way we're gonna play football this year" (Does this look familiar?) Now you can see into the head of Miles. He looked at this offense and said they will be crap throwing the ball. The quarterbacks couldn't hit the side of a barn. He knew it going in and the play on the field was exactly as Bo described his offense in his speech. It is just the fans hoped for something else.
You are close. Dancing all around it. The point here is he could give two shits about a passing game. This has been the norm throughout his entire tenure. What this speech was/is the ground work for a philosophy. There is a quote about not having a very good QB. Well, if you are going to run the ball and then run and play defense and kick then you don't need a good QB. Sans Mett, he will never have another one nor will he allow one to develop. AJ is right in his wheel house and this convinces me that he will be the starter and play the lions share of the snaps until he graduates. The premise is flawed
Holy crap. Everyone needs to read the pdf it sounds exactly like our team. This is from a coach from over 60 years ago. The game might have changd just a bit since then.
Knute Rockne was a great coach. Why don't we just run his single wing offense and win one for the Great Communicator.
its hard enough to watch much less read it. plus its 8 whole pages! Ill let the only ever elitist nicknamed robidoux whisper the cliffs notes to me. since hes so much more cultured and smarter than all those making a correlation in stagnant offenses and the almighty bo. 8 pages! every word!
