I put the blame squarely on the defensive side of the ball. We are putting up the points needed to win. It may not look pretty at times but we are still scoring. On the other hand, our defensive is not very good at all. I think the D-Line is doing a fairly good job. the linebackers are average at best, and the DB's can't cover at all. Now is it the scheme or the players? I dont know, but things have changed drastically on that side of the ball. Personally, I don't think having 2 Defensive Coordinators is a good thing. Just my opinion.
If Miles wants to keep this thing going, he needs a new DC. Thats obvious to anyone. The schemes are horrible. The players are executing either which makes it worse. In all actuality the LSU D played fairly well yesterday. Its just too many big plays allowed that killed us. Stafford did make some great throws and Moreno will get his. It was the all the big plays that got us. Another poor tackling performance. Most of the big pass plays are more often done when a S in one on one with a WR. Our Ss are horrible in coverage. Each is more of a SS. If I were a big time FS Id be looking hard at LSU. The LBs dont cover well. Although they havent been the problem the last two weeks. LSU D needs a complete overall. We also went to the Express way too much.
The QB is also to blame. The score was only as close as it was because Georgia's soft zones allowed a number of big plays as a result of big runs after the catch (that is to say that even the big passes were barely because of Lee), nevermind the fact that Georgia was served up two easy pick-sixes. That's not on the defense. Then there's the coaching, of course, and don't forget the crowd, who sounded more like 92,000 goldfish.
Having 2 DCs isn't the problem IMO. Other teams have had dual DCs and played well defensively. The problem is more with WHO the two DCs are. I still don't have my voice back. The crowd got pretty loud several times yesterday. But it's hard to get them to stay in it with that performance. Yes, the QB does need to take some of the blame, but every time we got within striking distance, and the crowd got pumped up, our defense gave up a big play. Then UGA would finish the drive with a TD. Just a couple of stops in those situations would have allowed us to run our normal offense, instead of forcing things to catch uo.
The offensive mistakes and miscues were certainly a factor, but the defense was the primary reason for the loss. Poor tackling and failure to cover receivers. Secondly, someone once said "A team that has two quarterbacks doesn't even have one." I think the same thing can be said of DCs.
Your Secondary is ONLY as good as your pass rush! EVen the GREATEST DBs can only cover a wideout for so long. And if a QB is allowed to stand upright and have all the time in the world and just pick the secondary apart there is not much those DBs can do! We gave up 38 points to 2 potential hesiman canidates. 35 if you blame the FG on the INT that set it up! Thats not great but its not bad either. The MAIN problem with the D is we DO NOT disguise our biltzes and We dont not check out of plays when the QB calls an audible.
Many good points here. Definitely agree that the two headed DC monster needs to change, but I still maintain the beloved Crowton has some issues, too. I think he has some strengths, but definitely needs to quit being too fancy with finesse plays when our strength is the run. He asks too much of the QBs, which in turn leads to too many three and outs, or turnovers, which in turn asks too much of the def. series after series. Remember, the QBs were supposed to hand the ball off, and not make mistakes.... and occasionally pass to keep the def honest.... that's it. Instead we are playing way too fancy of an offense and getting our azzz handed to us by getting behind too much. I hate to say it, but Saban would not hesitate to make changes on the coaching staff if needed, DC and OC. Additionally, I hate to point it out but in two short years with an inherited ALA team, he has them undefeated and at #2, while we are now in a tailspin as "his" players on our team are dwindling. Just an observation, not trying to be derogatory to CLM. I have definitely become a CLM fan and believe in his process, but at the end of this season he needs to make some changes that may be difficult for him, but NEED to be done to right this ship!
I think the Def is the problem. As mentioned above, it may not be the fact the we have co-def corr., but rather who the co-def. corr. are!!! The Def. just doesn't seem as fired up as it has in the past years. Poor tackling. I would personally rather see One def cor. Bring Muschamp back! As for the offense, I think we are loaded, and playing well, except for Lee. But we have to realize that he is a freshman, and will have growing pains. Stafford loooked like that 2 yrs ago, now look at him. Scott is an absolute beast. Would hate to have to tackkle Scott head one(ouch)
its everyones duty to cover up the problems we have at qb our rbs did a great job at that last night but we passed it more than stafford, crowton should have called more running plays especially when we were on a roll our punter and fg kickers need to kick like crazy special teams needs to get us good field position which was pretty good the whole game expcept trindon holliday was a little queit the defense needs to make stops and even if they get in the red zone turn tds into fgs i think most of all we need to lead early in the game so we can run the ball and have ball control
You can't put it all on the defense, there was some pretty questionable play calling on offense and the ref's were just total dump. Throwing for it on 1st and 10 going into the half when you should just play conservative and run it with charles scott but they didn't seem to catch on until the 4th quarter when the game was already out of reach. Plus we have a young quarterback, and hatch is just kind of there. our defense will grow and learn not to make stupid mistakes. But i sure do wish they would stop calling corner blitzes when they NEVER worked.
