By the way I'm with you, seems like the reporter in the video's rights were violated to me. I'm so f'n tired of PC liberals it's ridiculous. They want to create this fucking tummy rubbing utopia that's really a police state when you pull the hood off it.

One or more white students called one or more black students the N word. An unknown person or persons drew a shit swastika on a black students door.

What is a new president going to do about it that the old president didn't do?

New pres may be a white woman, a black man or woman. Ist likely another white man. If somebody calls somebody else a name just deal with it. Call him a honky or a cracker and call it even. Or punch him in the mouth. I don't see where there's any problem that warrants administrative action. Shit swastikas, while not illegal are probably against the law to paint on somebody else's property. Arrest the Perp if it is known who he is.

I would say it's at least a safety violation. But I agree, this will change nothing. One student was even shown crying tears of joy screaming thank you Jesus when this guy resigned. Really?

This issue illustrates the great, make that huge, chasm in this country.

While it is convenient to frame the issue as racial, make that black vs white, that is so shallow and intellectually weak. Not all white folks would do stupid shit and not all black people would take grave offense at the actions of idiots.

What is illustrated here again is the vast divide between the educated and the not so much.

Even a meager liberal education will expose people to critical thinking skills that enable thinking people to deal with the acts of idiots.

Part of that liberal education is learning about thought and how the brain and emotions work.

William Glasser wrote extensively on this, under, at the time, a broad umbrella known as "Control Theory." Condensing volumes into sentences is fraught with danger, but Glasser point out that when someone does something offensive or hurtful, basic flight or fight instincts kick in. That is in our genes.

But these instincts only percolate for NANO SECONDS, then the recipient is in control of his or her emotions and subsequent actions. Even physical harm results in the "victim" regaining control within moments . Some people choose to be hurt, some choose to be the victim, some choose to be offended. Others, who have been educated effectively, understand that once the flight or fight sensation passes, and that is real, but fleeting, they have the choice on how to react.

This education is liberating. No longer do you need the government or an outside agency to protect your sensibilities.

Think up the most vile insult you can hurl at a person. I can assure you that unless I respect you and you are important to me, I will not care one iota, since I realize it is me and not you that control the way I feel about the event. Just don't care what you think or say if I don't care about you. It is so simple, Control Theory.

A dude who I don't even know rides by in a big pickup and yells "Hey, Fatass, move out of my way." I may, immediately flip him off, but it will soon be relegated to the pile of the unimportant. It won't ruin my life, day, hour or even minute, since I know I control how that shit effects me.

Again it is so easy and lazy to frame this issue as black vs white. But it is really dumbasses doing stupid shit, and then people letting these same dumbasses control their emotions. Whether they have willfully surrendered control, or more likely, lack the broad liberal education and critical thinking skills to rise above and control their actions, I don't know.

But the solution is a meaningful education that provides the tools to navigate life effectively.

 

You're describing a few out of many African countries. There are many more thriving African nations than there are "places fucked up beyond belief" believe it or not. It's just we only see the bad shit...kind of like over here. The vast majority of Africans...even in the bush...live just fine. Ebola was concentrated in a few West African nations. The AIDS "epidemic" was too. They have abject poverty in places that also have thriving metropolitan areas. Just like over here. Don't fall for the Sally Struther commercials or believe that Boko Haram is reeking havoc over the entirety of the 2nd largest continent in the world.

European colonialism is the cause of the vast majority of issues in Africa. The Tuskegee Experiment wasn't shit compared to what Africans have been subjected to due to Europeans.

 

I doubt if the.percentage of racist students at Missouri, both white and black is any higher than it is at almost any college in Ameŕica.

 

That's a crock of shit. Why can it not be that these people are, in fact, in complete control of their emotions and are CHOOSING to no longer take shit (literally) sitting down. No one wants to be at a place where they feel marginalized regardless of how any of you think these students should feel. That is ridiculous. And the solution is not to just leave. No one should want that and regardless of the reason, I don't believe they do. Trust me, the last thing D. White Mann wants to see happen is an overwhelming exodus of black athletes away from PWIs and back to HBCUs.

Acknowledgment is a simple gesture that often negates the need for what tends to be a much more difficult one...an apology. Had the president (former) done that this conversation does not exist.

 

That will never happen. The HBCU's don't have the money, facilities or TV contracts to attract the elite players on the fast track to the NFL. You will never see another Mel Blount or a Doug Williams come from one of these programs.
