If our WRs had to relearn such basic principals as feet placement and take offs, McCarthy really was doing an awful job. That is stuff you learn early on in high school. And I'm a little disturbed if such a prominent, tenured OC like Crowton needs the help of someone 20 years his junior in the departments of "organization and play-calling". Why can't we just keep Billy as our full-time OC? It's clear we trust him to right this offense, why not make it official?
Which is why he should've been replaced... we'll see, but if there's no change on offense fits gonna hit the shan next year.
Ok, I probably shouldn't add more fuel to this fire... but consider this perspective. You've just read an accounting from JJ that the "fundamentals" of WR play are being recoached, that largely DJ M may have not been doing his job, and thus, Billy G's coming will help. Isn't this indicative of the position coach not doing his job? The OC could very well have been aware of the issues, but may not have been in a position to fire DJM, nor is it GC's job to coach the WRs. And, because of Billy G's ability to teach fundamentals, does that make him an Offensive coordinator? Both sides of a coaching staff are made up of many pieces, all of whom are important to the teaching, coaching of the players. We act as though GC is the root of all offensive woes, and perhaps that's just not the case. Obviously I don't dispute that he and Miles are likely targets of criticism, but let's see how this all plays out before you just annoint a new WRs coach as the OC. It's lynch mob mentality that continues to confound me!
Well that's what was said about Miles. He's a CEO and if he surrounds himself with top coordinators he will win. Now we're saying that the coordinator needs to surround himself with superior coaching talent. At some point somebody has to coach up this team.
sounds spot on to me...and I agree. add to that it all starts with the OL...how is any offensive play suppose to be run without at least decent OL play. Is Crowton to be blaimed for OL play as well??
which is why Crow and Stud deserve another chance to right the ship, with the help of Wilson and Gonzales. Really good to hear about Gonzales making an impact already.
oh come on, they won a national championship, and only had 1 bad year, this one. Where is your Christmas spirit?
