start Jordan Jefferson. In his interview with Tim Fletcher here in Shreveport on Saturday he said Jefferson was the better talent and he's not going to get any experience watching and going out and running out the clock. He said he should start the first three games so he'll be ready for the crucial Auburn game which he thinks will decide the West. Just an fyi.
While I admire Billy Cannon (as most Tigerfans do) his opinion is just that, and carries no more wait than everyone elses. Play the best player, don't start the one with the most upside just because he's got more physical talent, in the hope that he'll mature and develop. How do you know for sure he's going to develop? That's not Miles's M.O. anyway, all things being equal, or close, he goes with the player who's been there longer.
I have to agree with our previous poster. With all due respect to Mr. Cannon, Miles will start the person he feels will put us in the best position to win games.
I'll go with Coach Miles on this one, and Coach Crowton. They have served us well. I like Billy Cannon a lot, but he never coached anywhere.
JJ's time will come. I'm sure he'll see some mop up duty to get some game experience under his belt, just like RP, but I agree with the others. Coach Miles and Crowton know what's best for the team and it's with JJ as the starter.
In college you do not need an all world QB to win the BCS (as LSU has proven, Mauck & Flynn won, JR did not). You need a QB that will get the ball in the skill guy's hands effectivley and not beat you himself by trying to do to much. Then you need a lot of luck. JJ may turn out to be that guy down the road, but as a true freshman I think he will press to hard when the pressure is turned up. Give him some time to get his feet wet and experience the college speed and intensity while having a saftey net. Just my $.02
I know Jefferson, talent wise, is the best of the bunch. But, I still don't like the idea of a freshman leading the team into Auburn.
If I saw Billy at the barber shop I would shake his hand and say thanks for the memories, sign my hat? Preeeety sure if Coach wanted his input, he just might have called it in by now. Got three QB's. Not much patience will be shown by the staff on miss timing or throwing the wrong route, this surly won't fly this weekend but with Troy then later North Texas there should be some time to get JJ hardened up a bit, maybe run a couple of two minute drills, get in some game shape with a Tiger crowd pushing him. IMO, till Auburn, he should be in the rotation.
I hear that offenses are a bit more complicated than they were 50 years ago when Billy was running. I'm guessing JJ will play when he learns the playbook, and reads defenses better than the two guys in front of him. This ain't the sandlot.
