I'm old enough that I got to see all the teams on the list play. That '71 Nebraska team might be the best ever in my mind. The game with the Sooners that year was a classic.
This list is way to heavy on teams from 90's on. You can't say those older teams don't deserve to be on the list just because they played less games. there should be a way transforming the numbers some way.
If you note, the list is specifically tailored to include schedules. I think the guy's main idea behind weighing in schedule is that you can't objectively compare teams who dominated a 9-game schedule with those who play at 14-game schedule in the toughest conference in the country. I think this is the best way you can objectively compare teams, but it does come with a price.
but the formula has never changed and looking at the list from 21-30 with a lot of older teams (70s/80s), they played 12 game schedules and couldn't get any higher than what they are.....and I bet if you go look at their schedules, they have a lot of soft teams All I remember from watching college football from the late 70s through the mid 80s was all the elite teams dominating and conferences being top heavy. Two great teams at most and the rest mediocre. Remember all the Nebraska 61, Iowa State 0 scores? It always came down to Nebrasksa/OU, Michigan/Ohio State, Miami/Florida State. The college football landscape has completely changed. If you want to win a championship, it's much harder now than ever in the history of the sport. Wait 5 more years when all we have are four 16 team super conferences, 13 game schedules, 9 or 10 game conference slates, not to mention the extra conference championship game. And we'll finally have a 4 team playoff system, so the champ has to go through a grueling 17 game schedule to win the title. And most likely, you have to go 16-1 to hoist the crystal. It's coming. Money is driving this train and it's calling for more games to be played.
I started to type it and then, huh, they had no competition. How convenient. When LSU wins their 3 championship in 9 seasons, it will be one of the most incredible periods of college football, rivaling the 4 championships by Miami in their 9 year period. Much tougher today than back in the late 80s/early 90s.
Again I understand that it's just that there is no way for the great teams from yesteryear to be included so it shouldn't be an alltime ranking.
