One of the 6 computer polls used in the BCS computation. http://www.cfrc.com/Archives/Top_200_2010.htm .1 2009 Alabama.........14-0.......378.293 .2 1971 Nebraska........13-0.......370.247 .3 1998 Tennessee......13-0.......367.989 .4 2005 Texas............13-0.......356.118 .5 1994 Nebraska........13-0.......355.770 .6 2010 Auburn...........14-0.......354.620 .7 1995 Nebraska........13-0.......353.123 .8 1991 Miami (Fla.).....12-0.......352.972 .9 1992 Alabama..........13-0.......352.838 10 1999 Florida State...12-0.......352.210 11 1974 Oklahoma........11-0......351.424 12 1997 Nebraska........13-0.......349.350 13 2004 Southern Cal...13-0.......349.250 LSU currently has 366.807 points through 12 games (highest point total ever after 12 games) LSU had 352.729 points through 11 games (highest point total ever after 11 games) LSU is projected to have in the range of 377-379 points with a win over Georgia. A win in the BCS title game would propel that number to well over 390. Gives a great perspective of the strength of schedule LSU had endured this season. I know it's easy to look at Alabama in 09 and say they had an extra game, but you figure if we were back to the old 13 game schedule, they would have had 1 less creampuff to play which would not have affected that final number by much at all.
WOW! That is great. I stand by my statement from week 3, this is the most talented team! nice thread Izzy.
I would have to agree that if LSU wins out, this would be the greatest seasonal performance of all time in College Football. I wouldn't go so far as to say the best team if we're talking talent, discipline, coaching, etc. because I haven't seen a majority of the teams on that list, but I would say it's the best performance because of the schedule. Noticeably missing from that list are the late 40s Army teams with Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis though. Again, never watched them play, but I've heard things. Probably due to the era that they're not on there, though. Good list.
The 45 army team is in at #21. They only played a 9 game schedule. Had they had played a couple of more good teams (top 25), they would be ranked in the top 4.
Good list! Will be very interesting to watch this one play out. "EPIC.....LEGENDARY.....HISTORIC.....SEASON! GEAUX TIGERS!
Ah, I see. I have a problem with the supposed scope of this list then. I wouldn't call it "Best Teams" I would entitle it "Best Performances by a Team." I don't think how many games you play affects how good your team is much if at all personally. Nonetheless very interesting and a good list.
We sound like USC fans...let's do this after the NCG, where it actually mean something. Good find though
At the same time you can't discount the fact that LSU had to travel the road they are travelling this season. Give that Army team 2 or 3 more tough games and maybe they aren't perfect anymore. They didn't play bowls back then and certainly didn't play in any conference championships. You could say it was a great 9-0 season obviously, but come play out schedule.
For Colley, the 1999 FSU team is best all time since 1998 (when the polls first came out), at 102.67 LSU will shatter this mark with a rating in the vicinity of 104.7
Agree 100%. I think if we win out it'll be the best performance by a college football team for a whole season of all time. I think this is the best way that we can compare teams. I also agree that Army may have lost given 5 more tough games. This year's schedule is the toughest one I've ever seen, granted I've only been watching college football for roughly 10 years. On a different note, I think it's practically impossible to compare which team is "better," which is why I think this list is the best list anyone can come up with. Also, I was surprised to see 2010 TCU(schedule) and 2003 USC where they were. The list has 2003 USC much higher than 2003 LSU.
