Bill Walsh, former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, died Monday following a battle with leukemia, a source told KCRA 3. Walsh died this morning at home, officials said. Walsh was head coach with the 49ers from 1979 to 1988. Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach with the Oakland Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers. A source said Walsh's family was at his side shortly before his death.
How Walsh doesn't get more credit bothers me. He basically changed the way the game is played these days. Sad day for football fans.
In the early '90's, his son Craig was my inside salesman, as I was the outside salesman. Never got to meet Bill, but he seemed to be an interesting guy. Yes, and he did change the way football was played.
Probably the greatest coach in the modern NFL era. What an offensive mind. Credited with being the developer of the West Coast offense. He also surrounded himself with great coaches, a bunch who went on to become NFL coaches. RIP Coach.
being a saints fan, I have nothing but hatred for the 49ers. But I did respect Bill Walsh. One of, if not the, greatest coaches of all-time. He was an offensive genius. Football lost one of it's greats today. RIP coach Walsh.
