excellent piece. this is only about a fourth of it but its worth the read. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/080219
I went to NOLA for my first time for the National Championship game (I didnt have tickets, I just went there to party) and I was surprised by how clean the city actually seemed. Sure I had "bourbon juice" all over me, smelled for about 2 days, and was sick for a little while.... but I blamed that on the Buckeyes
more and more people in the media need to say what the SG's saying. it angered me when i heard nat'l guys like cowherd talking about N.O. not being able to host two BCS games in a week (back in july) and spoke about how the NBA shoulda did the all star game somewhere else. even to go so far as to say the sugar bowl and new orleans should be taken out of the BCS rotation in favor of dallas and their new stadium. if it's one thing we know how to do in la. it's hold an event and host a party. N.O. keeps proving people wrong on this front and simmons gets big props from me for being one of the few to point it out. :thumb:
This was probably the best article I've ever read on ESPN.com. The NBA All-Star Game really did wonders for the city, capping a two month run where the city proved it was ready to handle any type of national event.
I've spent more time in New Orleans over the last 3 years than ever before... I can honestly say that if its not back to how it was, then let it stay how it is... because I love being there... Its almost like the city needed a tragedy to refuel the "live for today" spirit that has always driven people there... Other places cry out the Blues for the horrors of the world.. in New Orleans, you cry out in joy for what you have, despite the horrors...
Well he grew up in Boston as a huge Celtics/Sox/Pats fan so obviously he'll be biased towards them. This was a really well written article, great read.
