He goes 5 for 6 tonite. He got his 5th hit in the 11th inning with the Astros down 5-4 with 2 out and nobody on base. It was an infield hit. How appropriate is that, as Biggio used to leg out hit after hit in the prime of his career. It started a rally and the Astros ended up winning 8-4 on a grand salami by Carlos Lee.

He is the only player in MLB history with 250 homers, 600 doubles, 400 stolen bases and 2700 hits. His homers are approaching 300 and his doubles 675 and of course he now has 3000 hits. He will pass up the great doubles machine George Brett for 5th place all time by the end of this year. If he plays next season, even if it's part-time, he should top 300 homers and 700 doubles.

Pretty amazing career and all with 1 team.

Those really are amazing numbers. The ability to stay healthy and productive for that long is unreal.

His post game interview and press conference were awesome. Biggio has the right attitude and plays the game the way that it should be played. I'm going to use him as an example for our Little League practice tonight. He already had 3,001 hits by the time he batted last yet he didn't mail it in. If he didn't run FULL speed, he's thrown out, game over, Astros lose. But in typical Biggio style he hauled @ss and was safe. Hats off to a great player who has had a great career and who deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame.

what a moving postgame interview. thats why you gotta love the guy. i was almost in tears for the guy. he was truly humbled.

when he brought bagwell out on the field, when clearly he didnt want to take away from biggios moment, was special. and raised his hand and the crowd went nuts for him. what an unselfish dude. that was pretty sweet.

also, i cant believe he went the entire year of 1997 w/o hitting into a dp? i really didnt think that was possible for anyone playing a full year. will have to see how rare that is.

its so nice to have not only a wonderful story of accomplishment, but a feel good moment of true sportsmanship. with negative stories dominating these days, that is much needed.

Took the words right out of my mouth. He plays hard and you never hear much of him...which is a very good thing these days.

Biggio is just a classic example of how to do things the right way. He is a great ball player, and one of the few players from this generation that clearly belongs in the Hall of Fame.

Hopefully the HoF committee will keep Bags in their mind, 'roids and all. Of course Biggio is a lock. And you're right about his attitude -- he's a true sportsman, and one of the guys kids can look up to (and you know I don't think athletes should feel compelled to be role models.)

He made up for it in subsequent years. :hihi:

The 'Stros are riding high right now, huh? Loretta with a walk off blast at the juice box.

Maybe it's because I'm a fan of the 'Stros, but they're an unbelievably fun team to watch when they're clicking. And miserable when they're off. Odd how the entire team turns it on and off at the same time, offensively.

    First thoughts come to mind...
Congratulations to Biggio and it was only fitting that JB was with him at the time.
    2) I don't know if 2 records have ever happened on the same day such as Biggio 3000 hits and Frank Thomas 500th homerun.

    3) If the Astros sold their soul then what have the Rockies done?

I've watched baseball on and off for about 23 years and I've never seen anything like what I have witnessed in this Rockies vs Astros series.
I don't think I've ever seen the following:

    1) A seven game win streak followed by a 8 game losing streak so far.
Talking about how an entire team turns on then off!
I was actually getting excited about the Rockies after the Yankees sweep.

    2) So many questionable calls in the games.
Let me say that Minute Maid Park looks like a very nice ball park but I really don't like all the obstacles the players and refs have to overcome to make the right call.

    3) Actually if your not an Astros fan, as a baseball game it doesn't get any better but I'm somewhat a Rockies fan so for some it doesn't get any worse.
The Rockies seem snake bit right now and I believe it all started with the six run inning versus the Cubs in the ninth, then the Cubs came back and won.
I don't think its so much the Astros as the Rockies right now.
Look how great they made Chicago look and now Houston.:thumb:
