I knew it was coming, but sad to see end of an era for Astros:

Should read like that, but it is sad to see. Guy never gets any attention but has been solid for years. Sad to see him go.

Announces his retirement, then goes out and hits a grand slam. That's a pretty nice exclamation point. If there's a Good Guy wing in the Baseball Hall of Fame, Mr. Biggio should be a shoo-in.

This guy's stats are off the charts. Being a nice guy obviously helps his chances of being a first ballot hall of famer. But he should be one anyway just based on his play on the field. Lest we forget he won 4 consecutive gold gloves at 2nd base from 94-97. And they weren't phantom gold gloves just because of his bat, he actually deserved them.

Didn't he also have to play catcher at some point as well? Amazing career. BTW, I was at Minute Maid last night when he cracked it, and the fans stood on their feet every time he batted last night. Pretty magical moment, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Craig Biggio is currently #24 all-time in hits. Needs seven more to finish #22 behind Rod Carew. He is currently sixth all-time in doubles with 661. If he hits five more he will pass George Brett and finish his career fifth behind Ty Cobb. Obviously, he is in with some elite company. HOF ? Without question.

Other all-time stats of note: (1) HBP #2; (2) At bats #13; (3) Runs #14; and (4) Total bases #31. Its been posted b4 but what is so amazing is that he accomplished this with ONE team. Doubt you will ever see that again.

Actually, he started his career at catcher (88-91), moved to 2B in '92. Probably extended his career by 5 years or so.

I am pretty sure he is #1 all-time in HBP.

Not yet. ESPN had an article a couple days ago saying he was only a couple behind the all-time record. Has a pretty good shot at catching it this year though. Hell, I'd throw at him if I was a pitcher. Then I would forever be the answer to a trivia question.
