LOL, he was talking about 1997 Florida, not 2007 Florida...although I'll agree to either of those. I'll go with LSU's 2005 "home" game AT Arizona State...first game following Katrina when the entire area needed that pick-me-up, and good one at that. Not to mention it was a Pac 10 team in their house (it's always good to beat a Pac team on the road).
:geaux::crystal::helmet: These are my choices as well, but I'd like to add that 28 - 8 whippin' of Notre Dame and Joe Theisman in 1971. This was such a fantastic game in Tiger Stadium and I remember watching it on TV. It's been a favorite game of mine for many years and was especially sweet coming after that epic 3 - 0 loss to ND the year before in South Bend. If I remember right, the Tigers weren't given much of a chance to beat the Irish in this game. Bert Jones and Co. plus the Tiger Stadium crowd made sure it was the Irish who got the beat down!!! :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:
I was readin through too fast. The '97 game was a great one but it had little effect outside of dropping UF from the #1 spot. The following game really put a damper on it.
I think it was '78. In overtime, with 4 of our 5 starters fouled out. UK went on to win the national championship. I would categorize this one as the greatest upset; not sure about the greatest win. After this one, the Bear told Jerry Stovall it was the worst beating anyone had ever put on a team he coached. I'll throw this one out there....'03 SECCG. If we don't hand the Uga's a major butt-whipping, the BCS might have sent USC to the BCSCG instead of us. We played a near-flawless game. I see that game as the launch point for the Golden Age of Tiger football, which continues to this day.
After that game Bryant mentioned that maybe it was time to consider retirement and he did so a few weeks later and lived only another month or two.
There was Bert Jones win against Ole Miss with 2 plays in 4 secs at the end of the game. You guys know I don't ever come in here and try to start crap, but honestly......honestly,do any of you think that any team can run two pass plays into the endzone from what, the seven yard line......in FOUR seconds? I have an Ole Miss book at home that tells of this game. I don't remember the timekeeper's name, but this is what he says of the game. He was keeping the time from the field with a hand-held device. The Tigers lined up to run the play with four seconds left on the clock. He says the wires got all tangled up with all the people and players on the sidelines. He states that he was having to stoop down and try to see the ball by looking under player's legs. When he was able to see that the play was in progress, he started the clock. Upon the incompletion, he stopped the clock absolutely sure the game was over. When he saw there was one second left, he says he thought, "Oh my word. If LSU scores, I will never hear the end of this." The rest is history. The way I look at it, it is really no different than a call that one thinks is bull. Sometimes you get the breaks, sometimes you don't. One heck of a game though.
for me i would still say the sugar bowl against OU ....first football national title in my lifetime and i live in oklahoma so its just an opinion lol
played in the Rose Bowl this year. But... so what? If Ohio State goes 0-12 this year, does that devalue the national title win?
