Do you agree that Josh D. needs to add weight? If so, how much?
I'd say 315 is reasonable at his height.

Good height, strength, and weight are about half of being a good offensive lineman. The other half is brains and experience, which is why freshmen never start on the OL in Division I. How quickly they pick up the nuances of the game and learn to create the right blocking angles is everything.

If there adding good weght. If they're just getting fat, it's not a good thing. I know that lineman carry more bodyfat than other postitons, but I do know that too much bodyfat even at o-line, is bad.

That has to be the shocker of the off season IMO. I thought he would be the first one out the door. Haven't been even slightly impressed with anything he has done since he has been here. I can't see him surviving another season unless the OL makes drastic improvement immediately.

maybe he went to zone blocking precisely because the line was small. and maybe there would have been more Ls at the end of the season without it.

Frankly I don't know what kind of net gain you get at the LOS if your line merely doesn't know who they're supposed to pick up, rather than getting overpowered one-on-one. Getting overpowered at the point of attack still happened regularly, so I don't see how we got any benefit out of the zone scheme at all.

I really suspect Alleva told Les that with the round of layoffs and severe budget difficulties LSU was going through at the time, he was stuck with Crowton and Stud after giving them raises the year before.

:geaux: Exactly. And the budget probs made paying buyouts to one or both an expense LSU wanted to avoid. :LSU231:

this! and i dont just suspect it, i flat out believe that is the case.

not to mention, i believe alleva would force his mother to scrub the floors in tiger stadium if he thought it would make him look good to those he answers to politically.

This, and when you look back to Miles' comments about this being the best OL since he has been here, it is sorta hard for him to throw one of his coaches under the bus. Especially since that is his area of expertise.

Our line is nearly the same exact size as Bamas OL for this year. I hope we have similar success running the ball.
