I understand what people are saying but I think it is better for us if Jarrett Lee starts because just like every other freshman QB, we have at least 3 years if not 4 of him as our QB and it is hard to match that type of stability.

this aint the 04 tigers. all this team needs is average QB play to contend for the NC. next year the team could be starting from scratch on both lines. recruiting has been great, but you dont know how it will go til it goes.

this aint the year to play a qb so he gets experience for next year(s)

I might add that it's not about what we think. I'm sure the coaches have a pretty good grasp on what's best for the team and the reasons for their decisions.

For the record, I was a big advocate of Lee starting too. I kinda felt the same way, get him out there, get the experience built up as fast as possible. But throwing a ball isn't the whole battle. If he doesn't step into that "game manager" type role, then he's lacking. This, for most people, comes with maturity. Some sooner than others.

Lee will get plenty of play this year (especially in the first 3) and will have his shot at being the QB for this offense in the future. But he needs to bring it when that time comes, because Jefferson and Sheppard will surely be making competitive efforts as well.

I don't want to end up like the '06 UGA team with Stafford in like a deer in the headlights and throwing more ints than TDs (he was, of course, a true, not a RS, freshman.) And don't start singing Stafford's praises, yet. Last year, he lost to USCe and Tennessee (badly), and we don't know what he's doing this year.

I hope LSU is finally past the mentality of "throwaway" years.

I think the spring game is a perfect picture for the QB race. The offense was running basic plays and formations. Hatch seemed more comfortable throughout while it took Lee a few series to settle in. Both QB's showcased their talents, and while I think Lee will be a tremendous player, but Hatch will start the season with Lee spotting in a few series during the first 3 games.

I have been interested in this decision as well. Great football teams have great leaders. To me, Hatch has jumped into that role. It is hard to lead when you are not sure of yourself. After watching the recruiting video, Lee didn't start playing quarterback until the 10th grade I think. I go back to my thinking in the RP situation. From Les' and Gary's position, who will we put at the helm of a 50+ million dollar franchise. Hatch and Crowton has too much history to ignore. After watching the Spring game, it was obvious that Hatch was more comfortable and he actually threw some nice balls. He alluded the rush better and is more of a threat. Forget this preparing for future years. There's too much at stake THIS year!!!! and too much talent behind them.

I said this very same thing when we were going thru the Perrilloux vs Flynn debates. BUT, I must confess that I thought for sure it was gonna be JLee. I also must confess that nothing said so far in this thread has fully changed my mind. That said, I'm glad to hear that Hatch is doing well. This is all I hope for out of LSU's starting QB this year...

I want the guy that is best at handing the ball off to #5, #26, and #32. Period. That and the defense, along with the occasional slant to Lafell or bomb to a wide open streaking D Byrd should be enough.

Semi-Confirmation from Miles himself on Hatch being the most likely to start.
