His examples were supposed to be clear cut. My point was only that it isn't always the case.

the good news is that Hatch has fabulous chemistry with D-Byrd. They mesh real well with one another for whatever reason.

Did DB, er..., I mean your 'source' say anything about Lee. Apparently he is not performing up to his promise and I wonder why. Physical skills, immaturity, doesn't know the playbook or what?

Develop that same fabulous chemistry with Lafell and Toliver and I will happily see you on the field.

There have been reports that Lee just isn't developing quickly. That's not to say he won't, but he's reportedly still a little ways from being completely comfortable playing. Sort of like John Parker Wilson, but younger.

Still, if Lee can't beat Hatch by the end of the season, he'll have trouble winning the starting job in the future as the competition just gets tougher from here out.

I agree that if Lee doesn't make it as starter THIS year, it's just not likely to ever happen, with Jefferson and then Shepard breathing down his neck.

As for the debacle that was LSU's mediocre '04 campaign (when Saban was jockeying for as much $$$ as an NFL team would throw at him), I disagree with the choice of Randall over Russell.

Randall was a terrific athlete, but I don't think he should've been the QB. I could've seen him as a slot receiver or as a DB.

In '04, I would've preferred that Randall was used somewhere on the field (would've been a good returner/receiver) with Russell playing with Flynn as his back-up.

That reminds me of the Iowa game, Saban's last game. Randall started and did a poor job and Iowa got in front early. Then because he made a promise to Flynn he threw him into the game with no expierence in a freaking Bowl Game and still no progress to make a comeback. Late 3rd or early 4th he decided to finally put JR in for more than a series and JR lead us back to take the lead with not much time left on the clock. We know what happened after that but it was obvious that JR should have played most of the game.

There was a reason JR didn't go in until late in the game. He supposedly called Saban out at one of the bowl practices.

Randall never should've been a QB, period. I don't know how Saban tells Pat White & Vince Young they wouldn't be QBs at LSU, and then keeps Randall there.

    From ESPN's Blue Ribbon Preview...

"Hatch is more mobile and Lee is probably a more polished passer. Even though Hatch is a good passer, I think Lee's just got a great touch and good anticipation, so he's probably a little ahead in that battle."

Sounds like Lee is ahead to me...

No one expected Lee to be the starter now.

It's not that he is behind. He just was never expected to be in the spotlight right now anyway.
