Lee is a much better 7-7 quarterback.

If they could get Lee in positions on Saturday to where it could be 7-7 in that he would have time to throw, he would start easily.

But when a blitz is involved, he makes a lot more mistakes.

The coaches know Lee is the QB that would be more likely to win a game for LSU, but also know that he would be more likely to be the QB who would lose a game for LSU, too.

They will let Hatch be steady and hope the rest of the talent around him wins it.

I put a thorough breakdown on Hatch today on the site for those who do not know the kid's style and the way he plays.

    Old news!

Hatch is a serious gamer. I knew he'd likely start over Lee after seeing the Spring Game. But, anything can happen in Fall Practice with injuries, it's not a lock yet for Hatch. The coaches have to allow them both to face pressure in practice and get hit often enough in the scrimmages to get them both ready for Fall. Likely, there is no way we make it through with one QB, because of injuries. Teams are going to bring the house after these guys.

Hope they can take the bigtime clean hits, the dirty late hits, and pray they stay healthy.

    We've seen this situation before.

The older more experienced guy vs the younger guy with more perceived "upside" competing for a starting spot.

Two of the most noteable were:
    • Hester vs Williams/Scott
    • Flynn vs Perrilloux
In both cases Miles went with the older more experienced guy as the starter but the backups saw a lot of action. I see no reason why that pattern would change here.

FWIW, my "source" told me it's a done deal today. Not only will Hatch be the starter but this is exactly the reason he will be. From what I was told, he has basically assumed leadership of the offense. Lee will get some playing time in the first 3 games, but don't look for him as much in the SEC games initially.

    huh??

1st of all, a different coaching staff was involved; secondly, the older and more experienced guy did get the bulk of the playing time in 2004.

Not at all sure what your point was on that one.

That was my first thought as well. It's pretty obvious that Pharpe was just trying to communicate that, based on Mile's decision to play Flynn and Hester over the younger, more high-profile guys (RP, KW, CS, RM, TH), it is not surprising that Miles would go with Hatch over the younger, more high-profile Lee.

But, after trying to think about what Parso was trying to communicate, my guess is that CParso thinks redshirt freshman JaMarcus should have started over senior Randall in 2004, and that Miles and Crowton might be making a similar mistake by putting Hatch over Lee.

As for myself, I was (and still am) in favor of Saban's decision to put Randall over Russell in 2004.

However, I was not sure about Miles' decision to put Flynn over Perrilloux in 2007, and I was not sure about Mile's decision to rely on Hester over KW, CS, RM, and TH. Apparently, I was wrong and Miles was right... which doesn't surprise me -- when we hired Les, I thought he and Urban Meyer were on track to finish among the greatest coaches in all of college football history, and I felt Les was the better choice of the two (being that Urban was so much younger, and being that Urban's coaching experience and mentors weren't as good as what Miles had -- basically, I felt Les had proven that he was no fluke, while there was still a risk of that with Urban).
