I deleted my old blog thread, because I did not want you all to think I was trying to double up and I really wanted everyone to see and know this.

But a source told me today that Andrew Hatch is the favorite to eb the team's opening day starter.

more is in today's post: www.lsusportspalace.wordpress.com

I will keep you all updated on here first if anything more comes out, but this source is golden good.

I think he's the safe choice for now. I hope we can get Lee into a couple of early games though as we may need him against Auburn. Thanks for the info Clair

All the signs were there but he still needs to prove it during Fall practice. Lee had the Spring going for him before the Spring game when Hatch just looked way more comfortable in the pocket. Much of Spring practice was no contact with no game like pressure and Lee's arm was slightly better than Hatch's in those conditions.

I think Hatch will prove he can come in and just do enough to get the ball the playmakers without making crucial mistakes too often. Crowton knows more about his Hatch's strenghts with there history and Miles likes to rely on the older guys to lead the team.

I expect Lee to see plenty of action this year and show that he can be calm and collected like he was in HS but it takes time. I expect to see some great things from Lee and the competition throughout the season will only make both of them better. Also knowing the Jefferson is breathing down their necks will also help.

This is probably a good year to do the rotation that Bill Arnsparger had going with Tommy Hodson and Mickey Guidry. Hodson was clearly the starter, but on the third and fourth series Guidry would come in to do a couple of things: 1) it would keep defenses from adjusting too quickly to the offense Hodson was running and 2) it would give Hodson the chance to truly analyze the opening of the game. It also gave Guidry game experience--unfortunately it didn't turn into success in his one start against AMAB.

Hodson was clearly the starter, so the relief never turned into a problem for the two of them. They understood their roles and performed them well. It did prevent Hodson from having "out of this world" stats (he didn't have a 300 yard game until 89 when Guidry was gone and the rotation was abandoned), but that didn't prevent him from being all-SEC four times. It did prevent the total predictability that came with Perriloux coming in late last season (After the Florida game, it seemed all he did was run the option--except the SECCG of course).

Seems a pretty good way to handle having 2 inexperienced QBs.

    whatever gets W's.

unfortunately i think this speaks to lee's level of comfort (or lack thereof)

most people speak of a quarterback that will come in and limit mistakes and be smart. after getting some experience, that'll be hatch.

the offense may be limited because of his arm but in all honesty especially towards the end of the season, the coaches did the same thing with flynn.

i agree on all points. lee is young and just needs more experience and maturity. he will grow into that role but if hatch can provide it now, then use it. i would rather a qb that is calm and can think under pressure than one with more skills that is prone to errors from lack of confidence.

we have the team to back either qb as long as they stay focused. if that is hatch, then geaux hatch!

I don't care who in particular starts at QB, play the guy that puts us in the best position to win.

Hatch/Lee makes no difference to me as long as it is the best person to put us in contention to win. I still believe that as long as who ever it is manages the game well and has as few of TO's as possible, the rest of the teams strength will keep us in and win games.

I thought this was pretty much a given?

The only time I've ever heard otherwise was from joe blow at the water cooler. And I just figured they didn't know what they were talking about anyway. Especially after the spring when Lee didn't out do Hatch, everyone should have known Miles and co. would go with the elder. And in this case, I think it's probably the right thing to do.
