Yeah, but the thing is, 7-on-7 competition is a very real and popular thing in Texas high school football. I just learned this recently, and it makes perfect sense. They have entire leagues and competitions for it after the season is over (in the spring and summer). It explains why the Big 12 has so many good QB’s, but also why they pee on themselves the first time they actually see a pass rush. They can come in as true freshman already knowing how to throw crossing and timing routes, but not how to avoid a rush.
