You are of course entitled to your opinion, as we both are demonstrating our biases. The Hawkeyes have played four games against the SEC in the past 5 years and we have yet to be out-intensified or out-physicalled (if that's a word) by anybody. .... and to think other conferences don't play with great intensity and physicality in league games beyond bewildering. Kudos to LSU and Florida for pounding Ohio State in back to back championship runs... that should take every SEC fan to a new height of self-esteem.... having a losing record against the rest of the Big Ten in this new century should cause some sense of reality. Plus, as long as either conference loses games to subpar conferences, like has happened in the Big Ten or you guys (UL-Monroe, Maine, Northern Illinois, etc.), we should both learn something about the actual strength of who our papa's told us we were.
The 'reality' of it is that the SEC has all the hardware. It's not just about handling Ohio St., it's about the continued dominance on the big stage (as tirk outlined). Like Miles said, you have to look at the whole body of work. It's no secret that the majority of the best football talent comes from this corner of the country. This, in turn, produces a more competitive conference, which then occupies more spots on pro rosters. Oh, and we have a championship game.
exactly.... even then, he was referring to games played on the field... all of them... the body of work. Players and fans may beat their chests, but the coaches understand the quality of their opponents. Btw, I've always been in favor of adding a 12th team and, more importantly, extending games into December, instead of ending our seasons the week before Thanksgiving.
Hey guys, c'mon be nice to Hawker45 he has LOTS of friends who live upriver. Please...let's not tick them off OK .
hawker is one of the best.....i guess no one here has defended our honor on a rivals site. :dis: he is on record many times over regarding his respect for our program. during the season he is probably more reasoned regarding LSU than many of you are. give him a break and give him the same respect he gives us.
I agree completely. My picture is a reminder of a friendly, tongue in cheek conversation we had on another thread that continued in a couple of PM's. He admonished me to be nice or I'll be eating corndogs without the corn !!.
