Re: How will we do this season? Your thoughts...

Okay, now you're making me have to work... I hate that:shock:....

At espn.com, they give all the team stuff back to 2002... I guess I could find a way to go back to 2000, but (1) I'm lazy, and (2) I doubt if it would change much of anything.
So since 2002, the SEC has played 23 games against the Big Ten... the Big Ten leads, 12-11.

There's been one big mismatch, Vandy losing @ Michigan in 2006, as Michigan went on to an 11-2 season and Vandy was 4-8. Of course you could call tOSU's two title games mismatches, also, I guess:yelwink2:.

    Here we go:

Purdue 2003 lost to Georgia 34-27, both were 6-2 in conference.

Iowa 2003 beat Fla 37-17, Iowa was 5-3 in conference, Fla was 6-2.
2004, Iowa 30-25 over LSU, both teams were 9-2... Iowa was 7-1 in conference, LSU was 6-2.
2005, Iowa lost to Fla 31-24, both teams were 5-3 in conference.
2008, Iowa 31-10 over SC... Iowa was 5-3 in conference, usc was 4-4.

Michigan beat Fla 38-30 in 2002, both teams had been 6-2 in conference.
Then Vandy.... then Michigan beat Fla 41-35 in 2007... both were 9-4, Mich was 6-2 in conference, Fla was 5-3.

Minnesota beat Arkansas in 2002, 29-14... the Goophies were 3-5 in conference, Arky was 5-3.
In 2004, Minnesota beat Bama 20-16, both were 3-5 in conference.

Penn State lost to Auburn in 2002, 13-9, and beat Tennessee in 2006, 20-10. In both cases, all teams were 5-3 in conference and 9-4 overall.

Wisconsin lost to Auburn in 2003, 28-14. The Wissies were 4-4 in conference, Auburn was 5-3.
In 2004, the Badgers lost to Georgia 24-21, both teams were 6-2 in conference.
In 2005, they beat Auburn 24-10... the Wissies were 5-3 in conference, Auburn was 7-1.
In 2006, Wisconsin beat Arky, 17-14... both teams had been 7-1 in conference.
In 2007, Wisconsin lost to Tennessee, 21-17... 5-3 in conference versus 6-2 for the Vols.

We know what happened in tOSU's two games.

And, finally, Indiana.... who is 1-3 against Kentucky since 2002... and given only the 2002 Kentucky team had an overall winning record in the matchup of these two schools, I'm not sure what it means other than you get to pick up a plus two wins.

So, other than the Championship drubbings that tOSU took, all one can really take away from the SEC/Big Ten matchups since 2002 is a bunch of well-contested games based on where the teams finished in their respective conferences.
tOSU perhaps deserves their rap, but, as a conference, the rest of the Big Ten has done just fine in their matchups against the SEC.

There, I tried my best to answer your question.

Good grief man, you come upw ith stats outta yoru azz for just about anything. you used to be pelasant to ahve around. Now it's all Big 10 this, Big 10 that. No need to continue to compare conferences, etc. Consider where youa re and leave it at that. Nobody gives a darn about Iowa and the Big 10 in this thread. It's about LSU's upcoming season. Enough is enough.

Please go read my first post on this thread. It was only about LSU. Then I was asked questions, so I responded.
The stats aren't "outta yoru azz", as you so eloquently stated, they can actually be documented.
Are you suggesting I not respond to questions from forum members?

You did a good job stirring the pot with the first post. Literally and figuratively. An Iowa fan coming here and telling us that it is mandatory for Miles to win the SEC West. Get outta here with that nonsense.

I am personally just tired of all of the stats and rants about the big ten and conference comparisons. You can post whatever you'd like, but my eloquence or lack thereof is likely to appear.

Now you know I'm not nimble enough to run a lengthy copy and paste response. Play fair.

So we have to trudge out to SoCal on occasion and let them beat us up in their house... is that the elite you're talking about. Go try it sometime and call me.

Let me remind you... I have never said the SEC wasn't the best conference... I've only said, with proof, that the separation between leagues is not as significant as some would want to believe.
I use actual games played between conferences.... I know, I know... how silly is that??????

no not literally. he didnt actually get a gd spoon out.

no you have to win your conference and compete for a NC. scratch that. you have to beat someone in a NC game to garner any big10 respect at this point or at least have a shot at winning throughout the game.

i understand this. you just try to marginalize it when i think the gap is larger than you'd admit.

hell i picked OSU against UF in the NC game so its not conference bias as much as reality set in.

you can call it proof yet the difference between the elite and the big 10 is obvious to most it seems. Or at least has been. maybe that changes this year.

Notre Dame has a similar misguided view of itself, while the sec has the skins on the wall. there is a difference.

May you be damned to hell with your copy and paste... yet only to be forgiven when you approach the pearly gates with that girl (picture) on your arm.

If your argument is that because Ohio State hasn't shown up in elite games (forget they played toe-to-toe with Texas, etc.) therefore the conference must suck.... then you must really be down on the Big 12 with the way Oklahoma has played against the elite.

So a ranked PSU and Illinois also got beat by "elite" USC.... it's one thing to be able to whoop up on Southern Cal in your mind, it's another to actually go to L.A. and do it on their turf. USC has played four games against the SEC this decade... pretty sure Arkansas won the west one of those years... how did those games go for you?

Tell Grading I'm starting to tire from this "nonsense".... don't need to ruin the rest of his day.

exactly. the big12 had proven to be way overrated last year once it played out. and by OU being its representative most of the time, it reflects on the conference as a whole. is that not obvious? perception is reality.

lemme esplain. the sec has dominated the BCS as a conference. it has nothing to prove.

when your elite gets smoked on the biggest stage, top dog against top dog, it says your best is not near enough and your conference looks bad because of it. this is why the insane people of the sec pull for other sec teams. however, I do not partake in this thought.
he wears it better than his futile humor attempts. i like his crappy side.

Unless, of course, you're a Bama fan who still has a Beat Utah bumper sticker.
