I was attempting to poke holes in the logic of the "official line". Obviously I don't buy the official line. Neither do a lot of people but no need to derail the thread too much.

If the terrorists are attacking us then it's a simple question....why? What is it they wish to achieve?

They want us out of the Middle East....and I don't blame them. Wouldn't you object to Chinese imperialism in this country? Or Muslim imperialism? Isn't that the reason we are fighting them? To defend America from the Islamic Caliphate? (Whatever happened to spikke?)

Why is it ok for us to defend the US but not ok for the Arabs to defend their homeland? It makes no sense....

FLA that just makes too much sense.

We must protect our "interests" over there. Or was it the crazy Muslim people just hate us? Wait wait we are promoting Democracy... I forgot the other lame excuses people come up with.

You really should just watch and learn. There's no need to constantly demonstrate your ignorance.

I doubt anyone on this forums qualifies as an expert but it doesn't take an expert to point out the hypocrisy of the US position of making the world safe for democracy or spreading democracy or whatever other bs line they throw out there for public consumption.

Here's a short list of reasons for US involvement off the top of my head:

    1) WMDs
    2) ______ is a "brutal dictator who has murdered his own people".
    3) ______ is a safe haven for terrorists.
    4) We fight them in _______ so we don't have to fight them here!
    5) The women of _______ are treated badly so it's a good thing for us to send in our military and kills lots of those evil men in the country.
    6) To make the world safe for democracy.
    7) They hate us for our freedoms so we have to go over to their country and kill them. That will teach them to not hate us for our freedom.

Yeah for America!! Beacon of freedom and justice!

Give me a break, these are blatantly imperialistic wars of aggression. George Washington must be rolling over in his grave.

America was well served following an isolationist policy up until WWII. I can even go along with US interventionism during the Cold War but I see no benefit to the average American citizen by US involvement in every corner of the globe.

We don't have the money for it, the economy is shaky as it is and the American taxpayer is being asked to shoulder the burden for everything, including Wall Street corruption, US imperial ambitions and Health Care for everyone.

    It's absurd.

Not only that but our own President tried to kill us. And don't even get me started on that fake man on the moon thing.

Which President? The one who decided the other day that he is now a Constitutional Scholar and will not enforce the DOMA because he doesn't like it?

Or the one who said he abandoned his free market principles to save the free market?

Or the one who said he did not inhale, didn't have sex with that woman and despite being a lawyer he wasn't sure while in front of the grand jury what the meaning of "is" is?

Or the one who said "read my lips, no new taxes"?

I saw Ron Paul make a good statement the other day. He said we live in a country where "truth is treason".

He's damn near right. It's getting very Orwellian around here.
