You can ignore almost any collection attempt that is not a proper liability. After my Mom died and probate had cleared 6 months later, I kept getting bill after bill from medical providers that my moms Medicare and two private insurance carriers had declined. But they kept trying to get it from her estate even though they had missed the window to get it done before probate. Most of them tried two or three letters and then gave up. But a couple of them turned it over to collection agencies. These assholes raised the amount claimed by a ridiculous amount and started sending stern letters threatening legal action. I tossed them all. But a couple of very persistent collectors looked me up in the courthouse and started calling me threatening to ruin my credit if I didn't pay the extortion. I politely told them to get fucked. They can't ruin the credit of a dead woman and if they tried to do anything at all to my credit I would put the law on them for fraud and violation of collection laws. They gave up. Anytime a company turns a bill over to a collection agency, they have already written it off.
Look, all I'm saying is read the fine print before you decide to order something and leave a negative comment. While you can probably sue them and win your case, it's a giant pain in the ass and it has happened to people. That's all I'm saying.
We appreciate the message. We are just offering advice in. case it happens and you or someone else crumbles in a moment of stupidity and weakness.
"The Federal Trade Commission is taking action against the Florida-based marketers of a line of weight-loss supplements who allegedly made baseless claims for their products, and then threatened to enforce “gag clause” provisions against consumers to stop them from posting negative reviews and testimonials online. In a complaint filed in federal court, the FTC alleges that Roca Labs, Inc.; Roca Labs Nutraceutical USA, Inc.; and their principals have sued and threatened to sue consumers who shared their negative experiences online or complained to the Better Business Bureau, stating that the consumers violated the non-disparagement provisions of the “Terms and Conditions” they supposedly agreed to when they bought the products. The FTC alleges that these gag clause provisions, and the defendants’ related warnings, threats, and lawsuits, harm consumers by unfairly barring purchasers from sharing truthful, negative comments about the defendants and their products." This is just over one month old. The courts will rule in the public's favor here.
Well, I'm saying that the Constitution gives me the right to free speech. If they mess with me, I will make it a giant pain in the ass for them. My credit rating is very high and it doesn't matter much to me at all because I do not borrow money. They can't hurt me unless I refuse to pay a legitimate bill. They can't hurt me for refusing extortion.
I'll order what I want and leave whatever comment is appropriate. Their policies be damned. I have only left any reviews for one business. They preformed the service I authorized OK but charged me more than the agreed upon price upon completion. It wasn't a large amount of money but it pissed me off. It was a local brick and mortar business and I found a few local review sites and gave them negative rep on those. They are now out of business. Maybe not because of me but even though they were on a heavily trafficked street they were in a small strip mall that was hard to get out of except in one direction and all of the other businesses there are closed except for an insurance company that doesn't depend on instore sales. And their product was in direct competition with the big box stores. With all that going against them it can't help to piss off the paying customers they did have.
Clear violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. I would love for someone to try this shit with me. The joke would be on them anyway. I don't even think I have a credit score for them to ruin.
Why? So your credit can get hit while you sue them and try to work it out? The point I was trying to make is that it does happen and it's a pain in the ass to rectify.
